Winter wedding plans

Sharonda, on March 23, 2021 at 8:21 PM Posted in Planning 2 50

Winter is my favorite season -- I love the cold weather (I do have to admit that I'm from Florida so our cold isn't nearly as cold as other locations) and the festive holidays during that time -- Christmas, New Years, Valentine's Day. When I was planning my wedding, I automatically knew I wanted to a winter wedding -- specifically in January which represents grand, new beginnings. When people think of winter weddings, they often think of Christmas or winter wonderland themes, but winter weddings are not limited to those themes and related color schemes. I got married in January 2021 at a resort with an oceanview, and my wedding colors were navy, burgundy and gold because I like that color combination. If I had to choose a theme, I would say the theme was elegance.

For those planning winter weddings, why did you choose your date? What are your plans, colors, and themes?

We are getting married 1/21/2023. Winter weddings first of all is considered off peak for our venue. Less money is always enticing. I also just really like the date"12123" lots of good things happen for me on combinations of 123 or 321 so it went right along with that theme for me. We will be getting married at a hall that also has a mansion and accommodations. Our colors will be black, red and silver. I also attribute our wedding to being elegant. My bridesmaids and myself will be wearing fur stoles. My bridesmaids will be in red dresses with black stoles and I will have a white one.

We went with winter because it worked with our schedule/timeline. I wanted to get married before graduation and we didn’t know what my classes would look like (Saturday classes) but know I’d have off MLK weekend. So just like that we had a date! It was one of the easiest, fastest decisions we made.

I chose shades of blue to kind of create an elegant winter wonderland. It was our ((my) unofficial theme. Winter wedding plans 1

I’m getting married 2/18/23! Winter is my favorite season so I always knew I wanted a winter wedding, and FH was fine with anything LOL! We chose President’s Day weekend so that guests would have an extra day to travel back home (most guests are coming from out of state). Our colors are white with small pops of blush pink, so definitely not anything Christmas-y!

I'm getting married 2/22/22. Our colors are deep blue, dark sage green, and possibly tiny hints of blush.

The date being all 2's on a Tuesday was was big reason for my FH deciding on the date. It is one of the few decissions he has made in the wedding planning so I am happy to go with it. It will also be exactly 2 years to the day he proposed (he only figured that out after deciding on the day).
We already had decided we were going to get married in late February or early March. We want an excuse to have something to celebrate at the end of winter. We both have pretty bad seasonal depression (SAD - seasonal affective disorder) and we are hoping to be able to take a small trip somewhere sunnier each year on our anniversary.
Extra reasons- we had our first date in the middle of winter so the season is a little better for both of us now because of the memories. Off-peak pricing is SO much cheaper! The only flowers I am set on having are white roses and baby's breath which should be no problem to order in winter. Hoping to include clippings of fresh rosemary in my bouquets and arrangements for smell, which also grows in winter.

I always wanted to get married on the date I started dating the person. Our venue happened to be booked that day but we were able to get 2 days before, 12/28/2021. As a fellow Florida bride I am happy to be having a winter wedding away from the misery of summer. We have even joked about needing heaters if it’s in the 50s or 60s 😂 plus all our guests are from actual cold areas so it will be a nice break for them!

We ultimately chose a fall wedding, but prior to that I was really adamant on having a winter wedding because we both LOVEEEE winter. There are so many pluses to winter weddings, such as the weather not being hot and humid so makeup and hair stay better! I originally planned for a February wedding (in hindsight, I'm glad I pushed to November because we were in the midst of the pandemic for the original date I chose) and we were going to do gray and black as our colors. I know, kind of boring, but I love more muted colors!

I love the significance of the date and the number combos. Your red and black color combo is going to POP!! I did not have a bridal party, but I had a fur stole as well . . . it was beautiful. One of my friends is getting married soon and she liked it so much she asked if she could use it as her "something borrowed." I was so honored!!

That is beautiful! We got married MLK weekend as well -- great choice!! Due to pandemic, we cancelled our big 250-person wedding in New Orleans, but the plan had been to have the wedding on MLK weekend so everyone would have that Monday to recover. LOL!

Nice! I always forget about President's Day, but we made the decision to have our wedding on MLK weekend for the same reason. White with blush is so classic. It's going to be beautiful!

LOVE your date!! You and your FH have thought through a lot of things. I know people who have SAD. You guys were so smart to use your wedding date as something you two can ALWAYS look forward to at the end of winter because those happy wedding memories will far overshadow those gray days. I hadn't even thought about incorporating herbs in the flowers for smell purposes -- that sounds so nice!!

Nice! I'm with you . . . I'm a Florida girl born and raised. I knew I HAD to get married in the winter because the heat can be downright miserable and unpredictable. But on the flip side, depending on where you plan to get married in Florida, those heaters may come in handy. We got married in Destin and had planned to get married on an outdoor deck overlooking the beach, but the wind was so brutal, we pulled the ceremony inside. However, we did have heaters on a terrace during our cocktail hour, and the space was indoor/outdoor so people could escape from the terrace into a small indoor room. We also set up a hot drink station on the terrace. Those heaters and the hot drink station came in handy along with the fleece blankets and handwarmers I purchased. And I'm so glad I bought them -- although the weather was gorgeous and crisp (55 degrees), the wind was not my friend! And our guests appreciated our efforts to keep them warm. Just a few tips from one Florida winter bride to another! Smiley smile

We'll count you as a winter bride -- November isn't too far off. LOL! The pandemic has thrown off so many couples' plans, but I'm glad you found something that would work for you. As far as your colors, I think black and gray are beautiful (main staples in my closet, so I don't think they are boring at all. LOL!). The only reason I didn't do black for my own wedding is because black was one of the colors my sister chose for her wedding a few years back. I didn't want to be a copycat. LOL! Are you thinking of adding minimal pops of color somewhere?

We actually aren't doing black and gray anymore, we were going to if the wedding was in the winter, but when we moved it, I chose more fall-ish colors! So we are doing burgundy and blush. My fiance's sister did black and gray, so we kind of didn't want to copy her even though I'm the same as you, black and gray are main staples in my closet too haha. My best friend even makes a comment if I show up wearing something other than black because I ALWAYS wear black.

I am getting married 12-31-2021. My colors are gold and black with white mixed in. My fiancé is in the Army and with it being new years the colors work out PERFECTLY!!!! I live in Florida and ugh our weather is BIPOLAR!!!!! So i have everything planned for any kind of weather conditions. I love winter because everything is crisp and fresh (supposed to be) and it's refreshing to me.

    Hi there!
We choose winter because in all honesty is was cheaper. Plus we met right after Christmas. So I thought winter would be best. Plus it would give us some time to save. We are going with blues and a blush pink! I also know that people don’t travel to much during winter so it a perfect time to plan and host a wedding so I know people can make it!

I wanted a winter wedding because I was not interested in any of the other seasons lol. Winter can seem magical especially when there's a dusting of snow. Plus it doesn't hurt that everything is off season pricing. Our date is 1/15/2022. We chose because it's a holiday weekend that did not conflict with another major holiday like Christmas or New Year's and that was the only date available at the venue we wanted. But this happens to be the 5 year anniversary of our first date!

We're embracing the winter feel and my color palette is inspired by the aurora borealis. I wanted color but I also didn't want a Christmas-y vibe or rustic vibe. It's going to be a classic elegant look with lots of food and fun.

We're renewing our vows on 12/25/2021 (our 10 year anniversary) because we got married very last minute, on a whim, on Christmas day 2011. We're going all out with a full wedding and reception because we didn't have that the first go around. Our theme is actually more of a fall theme, but we live in the deep south (we live in Mississippi but will be having our party at my parents house in south Louisiana) and it never really gets super cold here. Our colors are wine and golden yellow and our theme is rustic chic and we'll have sunflowers and roses, mason jars, lace, burlap, etc. Very cute, not real formal. We're doing everything diy (and I mean everything, except for our cake). I'm really excited!

We picked a winter wedding (we are Catholic and getting married inside the church) we are actually already LEGALLY married but we are not religiously married (so our Catholic wedding is 12/4/2021, was originally suppose to be 12/5/2020 but Rona got in the way and James is stationed in Japan. Just moved to Japan (legally married remember) and we will head back to CA November 29 for our December 4, 2021 Catholic wedding and reception so excited. We are using whites and ivories and hints of winter greens and winter reds. We are having a very traditional Catholic Wedding (it’s complicated but no this is NOT a vow renewal) it will be a full matrimony mass.
