Winter wedding photos?

If you had a winter wedding (or attended one), where did you take most of the photos (inside or outside)? And did the indoor photos come out decently?

The temperatures on my wedding day will probably be below freezing, and the sun will set at 4:45pm. I'm trying to decide whether to have an early ceremony and reception just to plan around daylight... but if all of our pictures are indoors then there's no point to have everything earlier.

Why not do both? The outdoor photos will be stunning! I went to a winter wedding once. They did wedding party photos outside on the rooftop, while it was still light out. (It was in March, so they probably had a little more daylight than the typical winter wedding.) Those looked very cool because there was snow on the roof. Then they went inside and did family pictures as it got dark. Different extended family kinda trickled in so they just kept doing photos with whoever was available until the other guests started arriving. Then the ceremony was at 7 PM.

I got married in January in north Florida. While the sun was out, it was about 50 degrees and windy — in other words, cold. We took all of our family photos inside, but since we got married at a beach resort, we took our couple photos outside on the beach right before sunset. If there isn’t a special location outside where you want photos or you are not particular about having sunset photos, you could have all of your photos inside, and a professional photographer will know what to do. Just speak to your photographer about this issue so he/she can give you some additional guidance and let you know any things you should think about with the early sunset and inside photos.
