First of all, where in upstate New York are you?! I'm in Utica! I think it's all a matter of what you envision for your big day. When you think about it, do you picture summer or winter? Also, I would take in account the travel for family. Would a lot of the family be needing to travel a good ways to get to your wedding? If so, maybe winter isn't the best. Maybe a spring wedding could be an option? We are getting married in March in Pennsylvania. Most of my family and my FH's family live there and then the bad winter months are over, but you can still pull on winter themes in the wedding because it's in between winter and spring. And then you might get some cheaper prices too since it's not quite summer. Fall is turning into a popular wedding time, so not sure if that would help you in the budget area all that much.

I'm not a fan of fall and spring planning as it almost alway unpredictable. late winter early winter. not a fan of fall wedding anyways. I like both summer and winter wedding. spring is just to messy. and by theend I'm sick of winter. I'd want to be outdoors. winter and summer both two very different style I can see myself doing. I live in Amsterdam and plattsburgh. all of the family will have to travel at least 2 hr no matter where I have it winter or summer.

This is my first winter up here, so I have no idea what winters are like haha. I know we just got hit with a bunch of snow. Is that normal for December? If not, maybe December is good. Smiley smile If you like both, then maybe I would figure out some other criteria to help decide; like budget, travel conditions, outdoor temperature for pictures (do you want to be cold or hot), is there something in either of the styles that you love and you can't do in the other style and you would miss it if it wasn't apart of your day (like a particular decoration or flower). Just some ideas. I hope they help!

Since you want an outdoors wedding, I think it depends on what type of weather you want to deal with. We got married in July in Scranton, PA and it was the hottest day of the year. Our wedding was inside, but we attempted to take some photos outside, but it was so hot it was unbearable to take photos. The winter you could have the same issue with the cold, but at least in the summer you don't have to worry about the snow. I personally would choose summer over winter, but I also hate the cold. I also wouldn't want my guests traveling in snow or ice. Winter in New York can mean a lot of snow and ice. Although I did get married in the summer it was not what I wanted, but my brother-in-law was getting married in the fall like I wanted, but we didn't want to get married the same time as him. In my opinion, spring and fall are actually easier to to deal with than summer or winter because in winter and summer you most likely will have to deal with extra heat or cold.

If you want an outdoor wedding, skip winter. People will be shivering and miserable, and won't really be focused on you and your FH. Either hold the wedding indoors, or stick with a warmer season even though it's more expensive!

I would rather have the wedding indoor for the winter. I honestly will not consider travel in the winter as an issue at all. if people cant come because there afraid to drive in the snow that is fine for me. The temperature thing is also not an issue for me. if I pick a time. I'll make sure my guests are comfy. I am way more leaning toward a winter wedding based on ur all comments. I am more of looking for what holiday to avoid and better months verse the others. like how close is two close to Christmas, news yeark.valintines day, mid winter breaks for schools.
and the summer, memorial day, fathers day. forth of july. ect.

I'm getting married on December 22nd. I'm in Mississippi. Our weather can be odd. It could be 70° or it could be sleeting or snowing! We are having an indoor ceremony because it's too iffy outside. Also, down here winter weddings cost as much as any other time of the year. Getting married near Christmas means our venue will be all decked out, saving money on decor.

My problem with summer is the heat, and the weather unpredictable. to top it off I live in a wedding destination capital so all summer wedding here start are running close to 8 or 9 k juat to rent the venue. that dosent included anything else. just for the atmosphere. barns, resort, golf clubs, hotels, and private property. then were looking at 25k for food.
additional ceremony fees of 2000. I still have to rent tables and chairs, and tent if it has no pavilion or the barn is to small. (summer here are cool enought to be outside just have for worry about rain.)

this items compared to in the winter are close to 3x to 4x the cost to have a wedding here from may to nov.
mid nov to april is discount season. so are long as ur not at a ski resort. wedding prices a better. but everything has to be indoor and u have weather concerns.(due to where I live verse my family lives. it going to have to be a full weekend even for a winter wedding) nov, march and april here are super wet and just not pretty. ( do death for fall, or spring)also my birthday is in march and want to avoid that. I dont want to not take any holidays away from people. though it nice having family around for the holiday and I so would likely want dec or late jan.
I love the way both season look. it just weighing the cost of one season to the other.
up too this week I was 100 %summer wedding. but I just dont think I should have to pay more then 20k a wedding. I am also finding that some of my favorite place have no accommodations. options near for guess. which just put added cost on my guest to travel the day of. living in the adk can suck at this point.

I would have loved a winter wedding! We weren't able to do it beacuse almost all of our guest are traveling and someone whould have been stopped from attending because of weather. If everyone is local, winter would be awesome! Think fireplaces, hot chocolate, cozy blankets...

I agree winter weddings are cheaper! You could always do it in March when winter is still around, but not as intense!
