Wine Choice/Update Vegetable Choice too...

We have open bar for our wedding - however, during dinner, the venue serves wine at the table. We can pick any wine - but it's only one wine for the entire venue for dinnertime. I know what my favorites are, but I'm not sure if that's just my choice vs what other people also like. What do you think...

What do you think is the most commonly enjoyed or generally popular type of wine?

Thanks Smiley smile

Yesss, I was thinking the same as @Kathy R. on the Pinot Gris- the Acrobat label has a delicious & inexpensive one. If they can order a Pinot Gris for you, do it! Smiley smile

As much as I hate white wine, I definitely agree that it's the way to go since it compliments 3/4 entrees. I think Pinot Grigio is your best bet. Also, green beans for veggies!

I know nothing about wine, but I love green beans!

...wow that sentence makes me sound like the most boring woman alive.

I would try to see if they have any Oregon Pinot Gris available. They would pair well with your menu and are fairly easy to drink so would be a safe choice.

Delfina, I'm dying. Girl, you got your priorities.

3/4 of your meal choices are more generally suited to whites. Pinot Gris or a gentle Chardonnay. However, is this a plated dinner and if so, have your guests already sent in their meal choices (as opposed to ordering tableside)? If over half of your guests order the beef, I'd say a Cab Sav.

Green beans almandine. Or just green beans. Glazed carrots can be overly sweet and brussel sprouts give people too much gas to dance. Or maybe that's just me?

Invites were sent out this week, and are due mid Feb, so I will know meal choices then.

I do have one with nut allergy, and since most aspects of my meal have some nut allergy (the family member knows, and unless she actually consumes them, she doesn't have reaction) I feel like the green beans almandine are not my best choice.

I agree that glazed carrots may be sweet, plus it's a lot of carbs. I'm torn between the green beans (likely the smart/safe choice) and Brussels sprouts (hands down FH & my favorite).

I'm going to echo PP and say Pinot Gris. It sit pretty neutral in terms of wine.

I love that you can go to the restaurant to try the wines beforehand. Seems like a fun outing for you and FH.

I will also toss my vote in for green beans (oh my god @Delfina, I'm dying!)

Go for your Brussels sprouts!!! If people don't eat them, oh well, the entrees already come with mashed potatoes. And maybe they'll try them and love them.

Is the bar open before dinner is served, also?

If it is, just have the bartender let people know that it will only be wine service during dinner. Then you don't have to worry about people not liking a certain type of wine, because they'll have their desired drink in front of them anyway.

We almost did this, but thankfully the venue threw in an extra hour of bar for us so it worked out. But I don't think it's that uncommon to just do served wine during dinner.

Yes, the bar is open before dinner. We have our ceremony leading directly into cocktail hour with open bar. When cocktail hour ends, they will announce to get a drink and head into the reception area. Wine will be poured at the tables already for each place, excluding the few children we have attending.

Once people are inside, we will be announced and head directly to our table.

Dinner will immediately be served (soup, salad, entree), and then the bars downstairs will open again.

There's something to be said for going with what you love, especially if it's your favorite, but brussel sprouts are really love 'em or hate 'em, and I personally know more people on the hate side. That's not a very accurate census pool, but green beans or carrots are the safest bets.

@pressthestarkey-it is not just you! And that's not good for anybody... :-)

A reisling is probably your best choice. Pairs well with a lot and is something a lot of people are familiar with.
