Windy Beach Wedding Attire Tips

Karen, on April 26, 2016 at 10:29 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

Hello all! My partner and I are getting close to securing our venue, and we're pretty set on doing a summer wedding on a grassy area right above a beach. Mind you, this is a rocky northwest beach, not a sandy southerly beach. One concern I have though is finding proper attire for the wedding party. It can get rather windy up there some days. I was planning on a shorter dress so it wouldn't drag on the ground, but I don't want to get something that's going to fly up with a sudden wind gust either. I am also trying to think about the bridesmaids dresses and if there's anything we should consider with the groomsmen. Any suggestions?

I think you'll be all set for groomsmen, as I assume they'll wear pants. For bridesmaids, you might want to choose something fitted, so the wind doesn't lift their skirts. And give your guests a heads up that you're expecting wind!

You can buy weights. They sell dress weights you can sew into hems, and they sell veil weights that are sparkly and clip on. If it's a major concern anyway Smiley smile

I was just going to suggest weights too. I'd also recommend boleros or pashminas for the ladies since the pnw can get chilly any time of year. I'm also getting married on the pnw coast, but we're only doing photos outdoors because I was to nervous about the wind and rain. Good luck, brave soul!

I have never tried this personally, but I saw a hack on Kathie Lee and Hoda that involved using fabric tape to tape pennies along the inside hem of a dress. Hoda's dress stayed put outside in NYC on a windy March day. It's probably cheaper than the weights but might be more work

I am following. I didn't think about any of this. I would hate to accidentally have a skirt incident for me or my girls.
