You could do customized puzzles for each person! That would be a fun and inexpensive way to ask them that doesn't put pressure on them to say yes. Or you could get everyone together for lunch or something and ask them that way.

In my friend group, we love to use powerpoint as an inside running joke for things. So I made a presentation with each slide being why each of them would be a great bridesmaid.

The proposal boxes are a recent Instagram/Pinterest trend that not everyone has caught onto and not everyone sees the appeal of. Straying away from the boxes and being unique would be asking them in person at a coffee date or over the phone without any gifts. Despite best intentions, the gifts and boxes pressure them to say yes on the spot without giving consideration whether they can or want to be a bridesmaid. Save your money for the non wedding related thank you gift given at the rehearsal dinner that is based on their individual interests as if you are shopping for a birthday.
