Will it be hard to book bridal hair/makeup with no bridal party?

Laura, on February 24, 2021 at 8:54 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 13
My fiancé and I have chosen not to do a bridal party. I plan to get ready at home with just my mom (who I am asking to be my maid of honor.)

I am wondering as I start to look into hair and makeup artists if they will be less inclined to want to reserve my Saturday wedding date for me if it will just be hair/makeup for myself and my mom. Do they look to reserve dates for bigger bridal parties where they will make more money? Or does it work on more of a first come first serve?
Thanks in advance for any help!

You won't know until you ask. Some will prefer larger parties and others don't care either way.

The ones I spoke with when I was booking services had a minimum number required if we wanted them to travel to us. You will have to ask if there is a minimum number of people required or they might tell you when you reach out to them.

Some MUAs and hair stylists have a minimum spend that you can essentially only meet by having a certain number of people — especially for Saturdays.

It’s also generally first come, first serve. There are definitely MUAs and/or stylists that don’t have a minimum spend, so you’ll want to find someone you like and inquire about their policies. Good luck!

Where I live they don't have a minimum requirement. At least all the places I checked out. I'm going by myself and the place I booked had no problem with it just being me.

I was able to book for just myself, my grandmother and my moh no problem, the rest of my bridal party wanted to go elsewhere to their usual hairstylists and such.

Every place I inquired about on-site hair & makeup required a minimum of services (they varied between 4-8 people) in order to provide on-site services. It wouldn’t hurt to check around, but I think that’s pretty standard. If you don’t have any luck, you could book an appointment that morning with your regular stylist to have your services done at their studio.

I went through thumbtack and there was no minimum with any of the MUA. I only require service for my make up and hair. No one else

Some of the HMUA I contacted had a minimum number of people, but most of them told me that as long as I booked both my hair and makeup with them, there was no longer a minimum. The one I chose was also very flexible in that I could let her know later on if I wanted to add any others to the services.

I’m in the Boston area and every highly rated hair and makeup person had at least a 4 person service minimum for a Saturday wedding. To avoid this, your best bet will be to go to a salon for services day of, rather than have the team travel to you.

While this isn't wedding specific, I've booked MHUAs for competitions - on site services on Saturdays - with no issue (for just myself). The difference may be cost, as it was always $300+ for me to have both hair and makeup done on site for those events.

It depends where you live. Near me, every small town has a salon that is open for doing brides, and some have a tie to certain hotels and resorts. Mostly, you go to them, unless you are their own customer, or live very close. Most people who want someone to travel cannot find ones unless they pay for them to travel 200 miles. Not even for a large group. My sister had 2 of her 4 bm stay with her, OOTown people, and 2 in a hotel. They drive 5 miles down the road, 2 HMU stylists did my sis and 2, then an hour later the other 2 ladies and MOG. No big deal to go out and wear a hair protector coming back. And they charged their usual, $75 for a shampoo and cut, $15 for make up, same as alway, no extra tips expected, all fixed rate. Last I knew WW listed 2 people over 2.5 hours drive away as closest to come to you, in our area our state.
