Wig for Wedding

I have very fine shoulder length hair and cringe at spending $175 dollars for my hair on my wedding day. I have attached picture of my hair. Also, my hair looks very stringy within an hour after styled. I also lost weight and my hair is thinning from the weight loss. My maid of honor and bridesmaids have very thick hair, and will be spending less than $100, and their hair will look 20X better. Maybe this sounds selfish, and of course I want everyone to look, great but this has really gotten me down. I don't mind spending the money if I know my hair will look decent and hold the style. I bought a halo extension that helps with thickness but it doesn't give me the fullness I want in the front of my hair. I really want to wear my hair down. Considering if I should get a wig, but I know those can also be pricey in order to look natural. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I think a wig is a great idea! But considering you want to keep the costs down and not spend so much for your wedding hair; i think you'll find it difficult to find a wig at your price range. Real human hair wigs cost hundreds and even thousands of dollars. You could try to find a synthetic hair wig but beware it could give off a "fake" look. If you do go for the synthetic route, have a hairdresser cut and style it to the length you want to maybe apply some dry shampoo or baby powder to eliminate shine. Don't ever wash a synthetic hair wig though! It will ruin the wig.

Also have you considered hair extensions? You could find some lower end human hair extensions as well.

Thank you for your response! I have had extension a few times in the past. Tape in and individual bonding. They never seem to blend well for me in the front, and they slide out because my hair breaks so easily. I am not worried about spending if my hair looks good, but afraid that it wont be possible with my real hair. Even going to the salon I cringe after I walk out and my hair doesn't look any better after spending over $100. Stylist hate me because I complain that I get charged the same rate as someone with thick long hair to get a trim and blow out.

Another option is extensions! You could buy clip-ins for relatively cheap.

Don’t get the extensions sewn or taped in. Do clip in hair extensions! Just tease the area you are going to clip on for extra grip! I swear to you they’ll hold! I have pretty thin hair myself and use clip ins every day and they hold for 12 hours every day. Just make sure to buy the appropriate length you want so you don’t have to take them in the hairdresser to get cut to your liking

Thanks Erin! I do have some clip ins that I wear with my short hair, the longer ones tend to give me that mullet look, since my hair is short in the front. May have to just wear my hair short if wigs are to costly.

How do you not have that mullet look if you have shorter hair in front? I find if I put the extensions to close to the front of my hair you can see them. Any particular brand you like?

I've never had a wig but my stylist experiments with them all the time from Amazon and they always look fabulous! I personally highly recommend extensions! I do keratin bonded (can find them on Ebay and Amazon for cheap and they're good quality) but if I don't have the permanent ones in I always use clip ins! With clip ins it's also definitely worth it if you do decide to spend a little bit extra because of how long they last and the fact that they're reusable and the easiest to care for in my opinion. I know the first time I ever got extensions I didn't wanna go back to having shorter hair, so instead of continuing to get bonds every couple of months for like $300, I prefer clip ins for easy removal and long-term reuse.

Well you’re supposed to place them in sections starting from the bottom section of your head working to the top but if you have shorter hair in front a hair dresser can add layers to them for you so they can blend better.
The hair extension brands I wear range from 250-500. Bellami is my favorite and Luxy is good too. I suggest for you try foxy locks or even sally beauty but with Sally I believe most don’t come with the clips included you’d have to sew them on yourself

I have the same issue and ended up getting a hair topper or wiglet on Amazon.

Maybe find a hair stylist who specializes in clip in hair extensions. I know you don't want to spend a lot, but you may have to splurge a little more than planned to get exactly what you want. I think it would be worth it in the end!

Could you do a half up, half down look? That way, your stylist can tease your hair a bunch at the front and pin it into place and use tons of hairspray. It would give you more of the volume you are seeking at the front.

There are also sprays (may be a better word for what I am describing, like a dry balm or powder even?) that you can buy that are the color of your hair, that you use at the roots to color your scalp a little bit and create the illusion of thicker hair. I don't know what this is called but I know it exists!

I also suggest taking a Biotin supplement from now until the wedding. It helps your hair and nails grow. I've been using it for about a half a year trying to fill in a bald spot from stress, and I've got little baby hairs growing there now!

So advice from a costumer if you want a synthetic wig that looks like real hair for around $40 look up Arda Wigs. They're very popular in the costume community for not being too shiny, fitting well, and being thick and durable to withstand styling. You'll have to search through to find the right color but I have a few in natural blondes and browns that look natural. You'll also want to get wig tape or glue for the front of any wig on your day, this assures it can't slip forward.

Alternatively my sister and mother have thinner hair and bald on the top of the head they both have found great results from taking NatureMade Hair Skin and Nails.
