WIFE or WIFEY.....

So im scrolling thru FB and I see a pic of RHOA Kandi with her cute hat on... read the comments and it made me wonder. Who is "WIFEY" ? Kandi, if you didnt know is now married and her friend made her the hat, so to me PERFECT gift for the newly married Kandi, others felt she should drop the "Y"...

Whats your thought on this

"Wifey" doesn't sound very serious to me. Like others have said, it is used in a way to describe people that aren't really wives/spouses around here.

My husband calls me his wife but every once in a while he will use the term wifey. I don't mind because now I have a ring & a certificate to prove that I am indeed Mrs. Gilbert :-)

@Russell this is the shop I have saved. Miss S. just bought hers, you might ask her where she got hers too!

I don't care for it. "Hubby" "Hubs" or any derivative thereof makes me want to gouge my eyes out. Husband/wife will do just fine. Or he can call me by my name or nickname. But to each their own, if that woman wants to wear a tacky hat, so be it.

It is just another nickname and not that serious. The hat is cute and I would wear it.

I feel wifey is a term that beEN misused and could/should be used to refer to a woman who is actually a wife. Women that are not officially married use the term more often when they should really just consider themselves long term girlfriends. It has become a way to distinguish a "main" chick from a side chick smh.

Yea, I love the hat and I dont think its tacky. Fh, slipped and called me wifey one time when we were dating and I corrected him, letting him know I am not his wife so dont call me that. He never called me that again (thank God). When we get married, Formally introductions will be Husband/Wife, but if we're around the house or texting sure I dont mind him calling me wifey, and I might call him hubby. but I agree, society has adopted "wifey" as a name to distinguish Main chick from side chick .... BUT NEITHER ONE HAS A RING

D&J, I was going to say the same thing. I hated the term "wifey" though.

@shaquaya - different strokes for different folks most certainly. But if we're talking whether some fashion item is tacky or it's not, you know where you won't find that hat? Photographed in Vogue. or Harpers. Or Elle. Or W. You won't find it for purchase at Neiman Marcus. Or Nordstrom. Or even Macy's. Sorry, a rhinestone ball cap, with ANYTHING written on it (or a rhinestone ball cap in general) is on the tacky-side of is-it-tacky. That there's a market for it doesn't make it any less tacky. And it doesn't make the wearer a bad person.

In private sometimes DH will call me "wifey" and I'll call him my "hubby". No problem with it. Never knew that some people associated it with a long term gf and not a wife.

But out in public, we introduce each other as "This is my wife" or "This is my husband".

I do not see anything wrong with the hat. Cute to me. "Wifey" on clothing sounds better than wife. I'm just saying.

So because something is not found in a high-end store it's considered tacky? I have a bunch of clothes that come from none of the stores you've mentioned...does that make them tacky? Or you consider the hat "tacky" because of the rhinestones?

@shaquaya - i'm considering it tacky because of the rhinestones. and i also have plenty of clothes and accessories from stores other than those listed in my example. i don't consider everything i don't care for as "tacky" but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.....

I really hate terms like "wifey" "hubby" "hubs" etc. They just grate at me and irritate me. I'd sure as hell never use them.

But if someone else wants to, go for it.

Im in love with that sweater!

But the term " wifey" as really played out. The term " Hubby" is relatively new but im sure it will run its course as well. When a man introduces a woman to someone as "wifey" it makes them ask " are they really married or is that just his girlfriend? "
