WIFE or WIFEY.....

Soon2beMrsLittle, on April 23, 2014 at 1:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 40

So im scrolling thru FB and I see a pic of RHOA Kandi with her cute hat on... read the comments and it made me wonder. Who is "WIFEY" ? Kandi, if you didnt know is now married and her friend made her the hat, so to me PERFECT gift for the newly married Kandi, others felt she should drop the "Y" because "wifey" is a bad name. Whats your thought on this

I don't understand why Wifey is a bad name. I can call FH Hubby, he can call me wifey (I mean, he won't, because it is him, but he would be allowed)

FH is in my phone as Hubby, and every once in a while I call him Hubwub or Hubbykins if I'm trying to be overly cute.

I'm in the same boat as CeCe..he is more than welcome to call me wife or wifey....however I am just "Sam"

Where I'm from (NYC) the term "wifey" is used for a long-term girlfriend or a steady girlfriend, who a man is not married to. I agree w/ OP, she should def drop the Y.

People around here (Chicago) use Wifey really loosely to describe their girlfriend, or in some cases a girl will call her best friend wifey. I personally think wifey is tacky, and I hope FH never calls me that. He can call me Katie.

@D&J I also from NYC. And females typically use the term wifey when they're not married to the guy. But in Kandi's case, if she's comfortable with it then that's fine because everyone knows she's married and it isn't some guy just stringing her along.

It's not bad i just wouldn't want to be called wifey. And i know FH wouldn't want to call me that either so its all good! To each their own.

Hubby and I have been married for almost 10 years and every now and then he refers to me as wifey. For instance, if we have to book an appointment for something and he copies me on an email thread it may say something like "Let me check with wifey." But he doesn't introduce me to others that way. He says "This is my wife."

I don't think it's a big deal. Wife, wifey, Whatev!

ETA: And I'm originally from NYC and live in NJ but work in NYC for those referencing location Smiley smile

I agree that "wifey" has become a slang term to refer to a main girl or long-term girlfriend but isn't actually married. At least around here it is. "Wife" seems to be more formal and serious to me for that reason.

Personally, I wouldn't wear anything that says "wife" or "wifey" because that's not my style. But if she likes then whatever!

My thought is - what's the big deal? "Wifey" is a term of endearment - if she (or anyone) wants to use it, why not?! I wouldn't care if my FH called me wifey. I think it would be more appropriate if he introduced me as wife vs. wifey though - using it in public seems a bit immature.

My husband calls me wifey and i call him hubby. I dont see how its a bad name. Ppl need to stop labeling things as a bad name. He introduce me as his wife. Ppl that already knows us and he talking about me with them he will say wifey, just as i would say hubby.

As long as he doesn't call me "hey you" or by another woman's name, I'm good. ;-)

@Nay, my FH is the same way. We have been together for over 10 years, but not married. He has referred to me as "wifey" when talking to family and friends. He will probably continue to call me wifey in those situations, but when dealing with businesses or something more formal it will be fiance until I'm wife.

Even if in someone's circle they use "wifey" to refer to a long-term girlfriend, I don't see why it would have negative connotations. There are a lot worse things a man could call a woman. . .

@D&J i dont get how wifey is considered a long time gf or gf. A girlfriend is just that a gf. Just like when u get engaged yall call each other fiance'. When u get married u is called husband and wife. If u have a child by someone u is child mother/father. So u give long time gf the term wifey when they aint a wife?

I don't really ever use the term, but have no problems with it. I didn't even know there was a stigma. I think it's silly if I were to use it anyway since I don't say it ever, but to be funny and celebrate the day I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy this for my getting ready outfit.

    I dig it!

FH has called me wifey since the third month of dating (we've been together 5 years). He likes calling me that so I don't complain.

    Awesome Miss S.!

I keep looking at it...I didn't think I'd wear anything in particular for getting ready, but then I saw this and thought it'd be fun!

    It looks sooooooo comfey!
