Why would you RSVP maybe to a wedding?

I am so confused by why we got rsvps back that say "maybe" on them. The just hand wrote it in. We got 3 families rsvps back like this. Not to mention we got less than half our rsvps back by our rsvp date (April 30th) and spent last night calling people to see if they were planning on coming or not...

Not to mention we got less than half our rsvps back by our rsvp date (April 30th) and spent last night calling people to see if they were planning on coming or not but that is a whole different story. RSVPs are going to be the one thing that drives me nuts planning this wedding. But back to the maybes. They are all from larger families. A family of 7, 6, and 4. I did contact get a hold of 2 of the families and both of them just said they don't have an answer for me and if they show up then they show up. I told them it is a plated meal (at $45 per person, I left that part out) and needed to know for sure if they were attending as we have to prepay our caterer and it is a seated dinner. My one friend said that her and her husband are coming but to just pay for the dinners for their kids just in case they want to come but she can make no promises (cont...)

Not to be rude, but these people don't care enough about you or your marriage to make a one day commitment. I would tell them they have until Saturday to decide, and if not, they will not be on your seating list.

Thank you all for thinking this is just as rude and crazy as I thought it was. I don't want to bother FMIL today because FSIL is at the hospital right now with FSIL having her baby. (Yay! So excited about that!) I am hoping that maybe we will get some answers on Sunday when we see everyone for Easter. Well at least from two of the families. I still have about another 15 people to get a hold of by Monday to see if they are coming or not. I don't understand what is so hard about sending back an already addressed envelope. Heck I would even take an rsvp over the phone or by text as long as I get an rsvp at this point.

Ughhh that's irritating I'm sure Mindi! I hope you get your answers on Easter. Hopefully your FMIL can lend a hand with her brothers. You're one month away from your special day and don't need the drama!

I would tell them if they can't give you a for sure answer then they can't come.

That's super rude, it's obvious they don't consider your wedding a priority. I wouldnt even give them a second deadline, as they're probably intending to make a decision at the last minute, if they feel like it or of nothing better comes up. Just tell them 'I'm sorry but I cannot plan on maybes. If you can't say for sure that you are coming then I'm going to have to put you down as a no. There will not be any extra seating or plates for 'maybes'."

I was like..who would do that till a 'maybe' TODAY!!!

The oldest has a softball tournament. I have to give the final count to the hall the week before so I'm hoping the time for the tournament might be more set in stone by then.

Um what, they want you to pre-pay for meals that may not actually get eaten?? Call them again and tell them you need them to commit to an answer. Tell them if the answer is still maybe, you will have to mark them down as no and see what they say.

I also got back some "maybe"s and some people wrote in their own plus ones. I had to kindly invite some people :-).. Maybe to me means no..and to take it upon yourself to add a guest to my wedding doesn't work for me either.

FH and I decided to just wait until Sunday when we see his Uncles in person and ask then what there plans are and explain why we need to know if sure and if they cannot give us an answer we are letting them know that they are free to join us after the dinner if they would like but we cannot justify paying over $800 for their 2 family's meals if they are not going to be attending. I also am telling he same thing to my friend. We would love for all these people to join but honestly it doesn't even seem like they even care if they do or not.

Why even answer maybe? That's just as bad as not answering at all.

My RSVP deadline was March 30th as well (I am assuming that is what you meant, and not April).

I had 23 outstanding but that was actually only 4 families. I messaged them online the next day and luckily heard back from everyone right away.

My brother, sister and mom assumed they didn't need to but I set them straight. FH's grandparents and aunt on his moms side never RSVPd but she told us they wouldn't attend so we are just leaving them as a no. It sucks when you send people an RSVP card with postage and they don't bother to use it. I even had customized stamps!
