Why do mothers want to invite people you've never met to your wedding???

My mom has given 5 guest names to add to my list, 3 are coworkers and 2 are friends of hers...and I haven't met any of them. We are having a somewhat small wedding (100 guests) and I already can't invite everyone I want to invite as it is, but then I feel bad because she did buy my wedding gown....

Wow, I agree with Lady Lee.

Yeah it take a village but the ppl who actually made a difference in the village are the ones who give without expecting anything in return, even an invite to a wedding.

I totally thought my Mom should have had a 65th birthday party for her since she made it all about her.

My FH and I were going to have a small wedding and now were having one with over 300 people... we will only know 100 of them! FMIL is inviting everyone she knows. I won't even be able to communicate with most of them because they are all chinese and speak little english. I don't understand the reasoning behind it myself

JJ, Thanks for the advice! FH and I are actually eachother's best friends (sounds so cheesy!) and do pretty much everything together. We don't have a large social circle so even if we invite ALL our friends, it's maybe 30 people including coworkers haha. We are planning on having an awesome honeymoon, the wedding is for everyone else, the honeymoon is our time.

My mom invited 3 of her friends from work and another one of her friends whom I have grown up around. I didn't mind the invite tho as long as it aint a whole bunch of them, because I felt as if she is helping out a lot with paying for the wedding. This is the only real time she would get to have her hands in something important, well at least for now.

My mom lives 5hrs away and doesn't drive so she is allowed to invite ONE *singular* person to my wedding and that is her best friend for practically my whole life and this women will ensure that my mom actually ARRIVES at the wedding b/c I can't trust my sisters to get her here. FMIL has no guest(s). Period. FBIL is staying at her house while he's here and he will transport her to wedding. We are paying for the wedding ourselves, it will only be family and close friends so everyone will know SOMEONE to talk to.
