Why am I having such a long engagement?!

We are having a 25 month engagement. There are lots of reasons why- I wanted to finish my degree, have time to save up, and we have had two big moves since our engagement. Next summer is the best time to do it, but seeing all these posts this morning about leaving work today to start their wedding...

Next summer is the best time to do it, but seeing all these posts this morning about leaving work today to start their wedding weekend is making me wish July wasn't so far away! Is anyone else with a long engagement feeling this way??

I was engaged 11/13 and wanted a fall wedding but also knew that to get what I wanted in my budget I needed to wait so we are getting married 10/17/15. Now my FSIL just got engaged this Sept and is getting married June 2015. I sometime am jealous that she doesn't have to wait as long and then I think of all the stuff she needs to do in that short time and I am happy that I can take my time and not stress.

Yes!! FH and I originally had our date set for 4/16/16 and recently moved it up to 5/8/15 but decided that it was too rushed since I'm moving and changing universities by the end of this year so this past weekend we contacted our venue and told her we are going back to 4/16/16.

Honestly it's better because we will have more time to plan and save but I totally understand that feeling of seeing all these BAM post and wanting it to be your turn already! lol

I hear you! I'm in the same exact situation as you. I'll be engaged 23 months when I get married. When I got engaged, I was still in college. The only good part about the long engagement is the time to save money Smiley smile it is depressing, though, thinking it's so far away ;(

Long engagements can be tough, we have had one as well. However, long engagements mean more time for planning, less stress and fun! Enjoy it while it lasts as before you know it, you'll be counting down the days!!

I felt the same way seven months ago (and most likely everyone in my family) but now it's only 8 months away! Time is flying by. With the holidays about to vamp up before we realize it it will be January and the count down will truly be on! Our engagement will be 19 months long when my FH and I get married.

Totally sympathize! We got engaged in September of 2012 and are getting married July 2015. I've lost track of the number of times I've heard, "wow! You guys have been engaged forever. Are you ever getting married?!" But the flip side is we decided on a long engagement to save money for the wedding and we had a couple unexpected situations that if we didn't have such a long engagement would have probably forced us to cancel/postpone the wedding. So in the end I am grateful for it.

One of the hardest parts is that we actually started planning about 10 months ago, and just found our venue this summer. We did have to change our date, and it sucked! So I actually didn't have that perk.

I thought I had a long engagement and really didn't like it. But now I am loving it. I hate being rushed in anything so this gives us time to get what we want. But i do wish Oct 2015 would hurry and get here. Can't wait to be his Mrs.

I'm doing it in 18 months, but believe me, if my father weren't chronically ill i'd be dragging this sucker out way longer. I'm envious of all of you with more time!

28 month engagement for us. I will graduate college 2 weeks before getting married and it gave us plenty of time to save money and get what we want

My fiance and I were in a very similar situation with a 25 month engagement, but school played a pretty big reason why it was so long. Now its extra exciting since we will both have completed our masters degrees in May, then get married in July! 2015 will be a good year!!

Chasity, I am graduating with my bachelors in May, then doing my internship ( my school is letting me do things slightly out of order) from mid May to the beginning of July. So I will be completely done about a week, maybe two, before the wedding.

We also have a 2 year engagement. We got engaged 7/28/13. We originally thought we would get married September 2014, but we bought a house so we pushed it back, and I'm so glad we did. Now we're getting married 7/31/15 and we have more time to save and plan. It'll fly by, I'm sure Smiley smile.

25 months! It does seem like forever! The first year was just trying to find a venue everyone could agree on, it's expensive now I'm at the point to where I told fh that he can figure it all out! I'm done I'm tired of all the arguments it's brining up and he doesn't get that people get booked and last minute doesn't work our original budget was 15 I totally thought that was a good amount now we're looking at 20/25 I'm over it

Ours will be about 18 months. We needed time to save, and he is in school and getting financial aid. We could kiss that goodbye with my RN salary in the mix. Also with my father being sick a lot of my attention was focus on him and I worked part time for about 1 yr to help Dad out. Makes saving for a wedding very hard at 60% of normal pay. I have most of the cash I need now, and Dad may be still sick (awaiting PET scan tomorrow) and will go from there. I may be going back to part time if I need to.

27 month engagement here! Most days i find myself checking my wedding countdown wondering if August 2015 will ever be here, but time has been passing quickly i must say, mostly because of how busy we have been between school, work, and wedding planning in between. And @Kimberely, my cousin just got engaged this past summer and planned his wedding to be 3 weeks after mine-- I think they didn't have many options for potential dates. But i agree it stinks to have friends that have gotten engaged after us and married before us, but it is what it is. We chose the soonest possible date we could get married due to school and finances, and we are slowly making our way there. I just can't wait for 2015 to get here and then I don't think I'll be as anxious about the wedding coming as much as excited to finalize all of the last details and put everything together. Not to mention that I am graduating next year (FINALLY!) and will (hopefully) be starting my first full time job either before or after the wedding.
