Who's NOT having a Videographer?

Is it really necessary to shell out another couple of thousand for a videographer when at the most the only thing watched will be a 5 minute Vimeo video? (I don't see myself watching an hour of video footage at any moment), and some moments are better not videotaped...like getting dressed... I know...

I know videos can be nice to capture some live footage aside from still photos, but is it really necessary when there are phones with pretty high quality video?

    I don't see the point. I'd rather be able to display the pictures and maybe make some cute picture collage with our vows written out.

    My parents got married in 1981 and had theirs videotapped. I remember sitting down and watching it with them every June on or around their anniversary. It is one of my favorite memories. They are still together after all these years and they have gone through a lot of tough times.

    We are getting ours videotapped. I want to watch the ceremony every anniversary with my husband and (eventually) our children.

    Mary, that is something our family does. My family and I actually sat down and watched a video of my aunts wedding on her anniversary. That's why I'm really excited to have it for the future. Plus I think there's some emotions and feelings that video captures that photos don't and vice versa.

    I am not having a professional videographer. My first marriage we did and maybe watched it 2 times. Thinking of just having a friend video or use the wedflik where they send you cameras to place around and they compile a video for you. Less costly than a videographer.

    Didn't have one and don't regret it. Although our photographer surprised us with a 4 minute slideshow which I love watching.

    We are having one, because I'd like to be able to look back and watch the ceremony and relive all those moments 10, 20, 50 years from now. It will cost us $600 and the video will be approximately 1 hour long and include the full ceremony, toasts/speeches from the reception, the important dances, and some of the highlights. It will by no means be a Hollywood quality feature film, but it will cover everything that we want, so for me it is worth the investment.

    We were totally against it until a month ago when we decided to. We hired one at a decent price of 1500 and out wedding is six months away so it was last minute decision. Videos are not what they used to be. No interviews or crap like that. Now it's like a movie.

    We're not hiring a videographer, but we are going to try to set up a video camera for our ceremony.

    It's funny when people say last minute decision of 6 months away.. (umm..my wedding is in 5 months and I still need my caterer...no I'm not freaking out..I picked a Sunday in March for a reason...its not a busy wedding time) Smiley smile

    @Mary W.

    That is one of the major reasons I changed my mind. Some people might think it's corny or lame or whatever, but you get one life. I work at a nursing home and am reminded of this every single day. If my memory doesn't work like it does now someday, a video of our vows and second to second emotions will be invaluable, not just to me and my FH, but hopefully our family after us.

    I am struggling with this right now... I am a very sentimental person, but I'm not sure I have the budget for it! I really just want to record the ceremony and the toasts/first dances. I've been getting multiple quotes in the $**** range! That's crazy to me! However, I got a quote for 4 hours of video (will end up with 1 1/2-2 hours of DVD) for just over $600. Its a well-known company in our area so I know its an awesome price. I hope I can find wiggle room in the budget...
