Who holds/takes care of the brides stuff on the wedding day?

Kp, on August 15, 2020 at 12:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14
I’m wondering who takes care of the brides extras on her wedding day. I’m going to have a veil which I’m removing after the ceremony. I’m going to have a coverup which I won’t need until late in the evening. I’ll also have additional things like my phone, touch up makeup, etc. Who typically deals with all of this, or who is it appropriate to ask to help with this stuff?

Do you have a maid of honor? If so, I would either ask her or your mom to hold onto things. Maybe keep everything in one bag so that they only have to keep track of one thing instead of lots of little bags.

Your bridal party. That’s what they are there for “BRIDE’S MAIDS”! Being IN the wedding is not about a title it’s making sure that you are taken care of. They are suppose to be running errands and taking care of your personal effects so you can enjoy your day.

A lot of people think being APART of the wedding is just for a title and day of stuff.... NOPE! And make sure you make that know that you will be depending on them for support in making your day special and making everything HAPPEN!

I don’t know how anyone thinks that your bridesmaids are going to walk around with a veil and cover up all evening, but that’s not possible since they’ll be taking photos, giving speeches, etc. If you have a DOC, this would be a great thing to put them in charge of. If not, ask your mom or a trusted friend to keep track of your items.

Ask your day of coordinator if they have a safe spot to keep your bag/purse and extras during the ceremony/reception. You won't need your phone though.

Daughter had a large bin that we dropped off at the venue during the rehearsal. It included things like the "emergency kit," her veil, shawl, etc. The venue coordinator had it in the room where daughter put her dress on and she and the BMs gathered before first look, etc. It was big enough that all the girls put their stuff in it (purses, shawls, etc.). When the bridal party started preceremony photos, the coordinator moved the bin to the reception space and put it under the table where the BMs and their SOs would later be sitting (the floor length tablecloth hid the bin completely, so know one but the BMs would have known it was there). During cocktail hour, one of her MOHs put daughter's shawl over the back of her chair and left her purse on her chair (all that was in it were her phone, Kleenex, make-up touch-up kit, etc.). Before the wedding party was announced, one of the MOHs helped daughter remove her veil and put it in the bin under the table. With all the dancing, etc., daughter was never cold enough to wear the shawl, so it hung neatly on the back of her chair all night (it was January and the reception was in a covered outdoor space, but also So Cal...). Once she was seated, daughter decided she didn't really need anything in her purse after all, so she handed it off to me and I kept it at my seat from the rest of the night. Throughout the night, the BMs were able to take their personal belongings in and out of the bin, and at the end of the night it was easy for them to collect all their stuff. One of FOB's "jobs" was to make sure the then mostly empty bin made it back into our car at the end of the night (the DOC took it along with all the packed up decor, gifts, etc., up to the venue lobby, so it was easy for FOB to load everything). SIL's car keys were in daughter's purse (his car was already parked at their wedding night hotel with their overnight bags in the trunk), so it was my job as MOB to make sure daughter had her purse in her hands when their Uber picked them up at the end of the night to take them to the hotel. Overall, everyone had easy access to their stuff if/when they needed it and as far as we know, nothing got lost or left behind.

If your venue has a bridal suite, it makes sense to leave them there. Put anything you think you'll need during the wedding or when you leave at the end of the night in an obvious place and/or show your mom/maid of honor/someone who will be getting ready with you exactly where it is so they can run up and get things quickly and easily if necessary.

I’m sure the venue has an area to store items.

If there’s a separate room that you can just store stuff in there that works. I was lucky that my dress actually had pockets so I didn’t need anyone to help me carry anything

My DOC handled all of this! I would highly recommend hiring a DOC--they take care of so many little details that often go overlooked

Totally agree with the DOC/MOB/bridal suite suggestions. One of those will hopefully work!

The "maid" in "bridesmaid" refers to an unmarried woman (maiden). They are not a bride's actual maids.

I'd leave it in the bridal suite, or in a bin under your table. If you entrust it to a person, they're going to look odd carrying a veil and coverup all day, might spill food on it, and where do they put it when they're posing for photos?

If you have a good friend or relative (maybe an Aunt or cousin) not in the wedding they would probably be willing to help with that!
