Who exactly gets a vendor meal?

Ashlynne, on January 22, 2017 at 8:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

Hi there! Newly engaged and starting to think about catering. My caterer asked about vendor meals, but I wasn't sure who to include. Do I have to feed the entire catering staff, or just the DJ, photographer, and event coordinator? Catering staff would bump that number from 3 to 14 meals. Thanks!

Bump. Definitely main vendors who will be at your event for a long time. But I'm all ears.

I don't think the catering staff need to be fed unless they are seperate. But I could be wrong.

I am ordering meals for DJ, photographer, officiant(just in case), DOC, bartender, security guard and museum attendant that will be there to staff the front desk of the venue. ETA: my caterers will only be on site for less then 2 hours so I'm not even sure if they will be taking breaks to eat

Catering staff do not need meals. Only outside vendors you're bringing in. DJ, photographer/videographer, DOC if they're separate from the venue, officiant if you've invited them to the reception, and HMUA if you're keeping them around for touch ups.

Your contracts with each will usually have a note about whether they require a meal or not.

No, I don't think catering staff needs to be included unless you are hiring them separately.

Not the catering staff. Caterer takes care of them or not. I would agree with band or DH/photographer, video people, officiant and his.her spouse

We're feeding photographer (x2), videographer, DJ, and photobooth attendant. Our venue is providing them free meals - so I'm very happy about that. I just checked with them to see if they had any dietary restrictions we should be mindful of - and they all said no.

My contracts didn't say anything about feeding them.

We're also having our Hair/MUA with us all day 9-3ish - so we're going to make sure there's enough that she can join us for lunch, and breakfast snacks (muffins, bagels, fruit, etc) - because no one wants a hangry hairdresser or MUA!

We did photographer and her assistant, DJ and his assistant, and our two pastors who officiated our wedding.

Make sure not to forget assistants who might be coming!

Catering staff, no. Where I work, we feed our own on our own.

I would look over your contracts. Some vendors require them. Double-check those.

Outside of that, it's typically the DJ(s)/MC, the photographer(s) and their assistant(s), the officiant if they're joining you at the reception, and H/MUA if they're still around.

We typically see 5-6 vendor meals at most during a wedding.

So far, my contracts for DOC, photographer, and DJ say they require a meal, so I plan to provide for them.

I would stick with the vendors who require a meal in their contract. That most likely won't include the catering staff.

I think most caterers will take into account their own food. I know mine does. I'm planning on feeding all my vendors that will actually be there (DJ, Photographer, officiant, etc.) I could be wrong so someone correct me if I am, but I don't think you'd have to feed like your baker or florist or anything like that. Normally as far as I know they just drop their stuff off and leave. I'd take into consideration your MUA/Hair stylist as well, if they're sticking around a long time.
