Which wedding dress would be the better option?

Rachel, on December 12, 2019 at 12:16 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I am planning on buying a wedding dress used from StillWhite.com and I found the same dress from two sellers. Which one do you think will end up being cheaper and the better option?

Seller A:

$620 for dress (comes with veil, dry cleaned professionally)

$250 for shipping

1" too long, 4" too wide on the Waist

Seller B:

$690 for dress (comes with veil, NOT professionally dry cleaned)

$168 for shipping

waist size exact, 6" too tall

You can probably just hand wash the veil yourself. And the cost to take up a dress is probably about the same regardless of whether it's 6" too long or 1" too long. Since the first one would also require taking in the waist, I suspect the second one is the better deal.

However, if you want a more definitive answer, you could check with the alterations person you intend to use.

Thanks for your feedback!!! I am not certain on pricing when it comes to the waist and dry cleaning, since I would have to dry clean the second dress as well.

Unless the dress is silk, it could also be hand washed. However, I would certainly understand a reluctance to go through the hassle of doing that. Checking with a dry cleaner would make sense.

I am hesitant since the fabric I could easily mess up since it is organza lol

I would definitely check with a dry cleaner and a seamstress to see what those costs are. My gut is to say go with the first because although you may have more alterations you'd be saving on the dry cleaning which I think would more than makeup the difference in initial costs. Also, unless you've tried it on in a store and you know the waist size will definitely be perfect, you may end up having to get those alterations either way.

Seller A: $870 + alterations which could cost ~$200-300 to hem and bring in at the waist

Seller B: $858 + dry cleaning (don't know the rough cost of this, but I assume ~100-200) + alterations to hem which could cost ~$150-200.

I was originally going to say Seller B because you only need to hem, but I think dry cleaning is also just as expensive. You'd be spending roughly ~$300 or so more for Seller B. If you can afford both dresses choose the one you love and see yourself wearing. Otherwise if it's about cost go with Seller A.
