Which wedding am i having?

Erica, on June 6, 2020 at 8:46 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 9

Our original date was April 5. We postponed 2 weeks before and set a new date for July 12 thinking everything would be back to normal by then...

I'm just going to throw out some dates:

June 15 - outdoor dining resumes in NJ

June 22 - salons and barber shops open

June 26 - MY FLORIST NEEDS A DECISION

July 6 - camps and summer recreation programs open

We have to be in phase 3 to even consider moving ahead on July 12 and the July 6 date is the last listed "event" in phase 2 for NJ. I'm afraid we won't know about phase 3 until closer to the 29th of June.

I have a backup plan for an intimate ceremony plus lunch for our immediate families on July 12 should we not have our big(ger) wedding. It was never big to begin with, about 80 invites (about 50 are still coming as of now).

However, the restaurant I've nailed down for the backup ceremony will only hold the date for a week after receiving the info sheet - I plan to send that over Monday. That means by June 15 we have to make a decision: cancel venue with associated vendors and commit to restaurant or....... be confident we can have 50 person celebration because the Governor has set forth a defined plan.

Should I just cancel and move forward with the immediate family version of our wedding at the restaurant????

Will NJ announce anything by June 15th??????

I'm so sick of the unknown.

Unfortunately that is a very difficult decision to make. Has the governor made any announcements on how large of social gatherings are allowed? If so I would based your decision on that. I live in Maryland and we are only allowed social gatherings of 10 or less at this point. Not sure about Jersey.

Right now it’s 10 inside and up to 25 outside. But outdoor dining per se doesn’t begin until June 15. Soooo. Yeah.
    I’m so done with this.

I'm so sorry. I would probably plan on having the intimate ceremony rather than your "bigger" wedding because who knows when you will be able to have 50+ people. You could always live stream your ceremony for those you could not attend to see.

I agree with pp I think right now it sounds better to have the intimate ceremony since there’s no telling when you’d be able to have the bigger gathering. Hopefully this week there’s more announcements about phases for your state but I think it sounds better to do the bigger one later

    I'm sorry, I understand.

As someone who works in restaurants in NJ, I'm not even sure if we'll actually be opening all the restaurants - I haven't heard from mine.

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be moving to Phase 3 before July 12. Murphy is cautious and will want to see how Phase 2 goes. Right now, the numbers have been good, but we had a slight uptick on people in ICU the past day or so, which might reflect Memorial Day. If this continues, he'll probably put restrictions back in place... if it's just a blip, he'll make Phase 2 longer.

I'd go for the intimate and have a big party later.

Oo this is so frustrating! I would be a crying ball of a woman with no ability to do anything right now if I were you, so your persistence through it is admirable! Unfortunately, I'm not a risk taker in these types of situations, so I'd suggest going for the smaller one and maybe planning another reception later on. The spikes right now are happening from Memorial Day when you look at the 7-14 day incubation time, so a lot of people are expecting more spikes in the coming weeks after all the protests and just people getting out again. It seems like there's a lot stacked against you. I'm so sorry!

We will have my brother set up some way to do that whether zoom or facebook live, I don't know.

Thanks - this is more info than I've had from the venue!

    Soooo,

We still haven't made a decision and I'm beyond a ball of nerves! We're waiting to see if anything will be announced this week about indoor dining in NJ. It's what needs to be allowed for us to proceed on July 12.

In the meantime I went over to the restaurant (that has a covered outdoor patio) where we can have a microwedding that same day.

We don't want to/can't postpone the entire thing because I need to be on his insurance - my fiancee just switched jobs and the new company won't let me on policy unless we're married.

And since we already invested over $6000 in a venue and caterer we can't get back - we will have a reception later on. When? tbd.

I need to have a decision by Thursday when we go for our marriage license because that has the town we marry in on it apparently.

I'm all over the place with this - there's nothing I can do, I just have to wait a few more days and then decide!
