We told out family first. We still haven't made our engagement public. Only family and a select amount of friends know.

Yes that photo is from the proposal. Our favorite hockey team, has a game every year called teddy bear toss. When they score there 1st goal of the game, everyone start throwing stuffed animals onto the ice. A local business will collect the animals and then bring them to different families. Each year we go and bring as many stuff animals as we can. I love this game. A few days before the game my FH tells me we get to go down onto the ice and help collect the animals. I have always wanted to do that. So on December 9th 2017, I spent the whole day with my friends and we went to the hockey game. Utica College scores their 1st goal and we are the 1st people allowed out onto the ice. Next thing my FH is given a microphone and starts talking about how 6 year ago we met at a Utica College hockey game. I honestly do not remember most of his speach. Well next thing I see, him done on one knee asking me to marry him. I said yes. He also had his family and mine family there as well and along with our friends. Everyone had known about it for a while. It was a total surprise.

Friends for sure. My best friend/ex husband/man of honor was the second to know after my FHs BM. My mother was third.

We told some close friends and family around the time before making the official announcement. But I believe my friend was the very first to know. We were in high school when he asked so we hid it for awhile.

OH I love this question!! Mostly because, the answer was BOTH! I hope you won't mind me indulging in my story.... Smiley smile

My fiance had been determining when to propose when a group of our closest friends all decided to plan a "Valentine's Soiree" - a private dance lesson for our group at a local studio, followed by dinner at a tavern down the street. We all used it as an excuse to get dolled up in gowns and suits - it was so exciting.

The big moment!Which came first: telling your friends or family about the engagement? 1

Behind the scenes, Rob had coordinated with the instructor to select us at the end to demonstrate the dance we had just learned. After a minute, Rob purposefully misstepped, and as he turned around, he pulled the ring from his ankle holster (my charming central-pa guy!) and proposed in front of our best friends! And, he managed to keep the whole thing a complete secret!

Immediately following dancing, I was in shock, and wanted to call my parents in the car on the way to the restaurant. He told so sweetly, "our friends are waiting on us, let's take this hour just to enjoy the moment and we will call them after dinner." Well, I walked into the restaurant, and wouldn't you know it.... His family and my family were both present! He had organized our proposal AND our engagement party! It was truly breathtaking, I felt so loved, so overjoyed, I couldn't stop smiling or crying!

Celebrating with the girls - we are all so surprised!Which came first: telling your friends or family about the engagement? 2

Well I only have one friend that I consider family because we have been best friends for 12 years. So Family. I told her then my dad, who already knew it was coming because my husband asked him.

Friends knew first because she proposed in front of them at our charity booth at a Con. She asked one to take pics of our new costumes (coordinated as the fan favorite pairing from her favorite video game) for her dad and then in the middle of the photo shoot (which is completely normal for us so no one suspected her plan at all) she proposed. We went to wander the floor alone after everyone at the booth had a chance to congratulate us and stop freaking out and messaged our parents (it is way too loud in the Con center to make a call) and siblings then called her grandparents (mine have been gone a long time) from Panera when we stepped out for lunch and answer our parents' phone calls. I texted friends who werent there right after getting replies from my family and let my parents share the news with extended family. We waited until we heard back from everyone important before posting the photo shoot to FB with the pics the friend had kept snapping throughout the proposal. We had immediately shared a few of the best from before she started proposing so that people wouldnt get suspicious since everyone knew we were debuting these costumes at that event.

It took us almost a year. After we had a venue my matron of honor did our engagement photos and we picked a couple and posted on Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram to cover all our bases. But we told my great grandparents in person. (They dont have social media). They were happy for us. ❤
