Absolutely not! They wouldn’t dare. He’s much too independent minded for that. It was a most unique, unexpected, surprising proposal! They were thrilled of course 😊

We told our parents first then our closest friends later that day. Social media post was about 5 days after that.

It’s a long story but we were high school sweethearts - 45 years ago. I was living in Ecuador, he was still working in the US. After a long distance relationship and impossibly amazing reconnection in the first place, he visited Ecuador with me. I took him to my favorite Incan ruins in the middle of the city of Cuenca. He got down on his knees and proposed right at the top of the lookout overlooking the incredible gardens and vista. I had no idea it would happen then and there. It was beautiful.

    Short answer, family first!

Longer answer. We took about an hour to ourselves before calling anyone, including my parents. He had already asked for a blessing, but I wanted to call them first anyways! From there, we went down a list we made at the end of our first hour, will all close family before any friends.

My bestfriend was there when we got engaged so I guess technically she knew first but we called our parents right away after!

Told my parents first! It was too late at night to call the grandparents, so I called a couple of my best friends and then told my grandparents the next morning. Made sure my close friends and family knew before I posted anything on Facebook.

Family first always!! Our two friends who took us on the hiking trip knew the plan and both sets of parents knew because FH asked/told them. I have heard horror stories of people posting on Fb their engagement without personally telling their direct family first. Guess it depends on how close people are with their families. Most people have at least 1 parent I think.. My friends found out the next day when I announced it. I remember my brother was so grumpy cuz he was downstairs playing video games and my mom kept telling him to come upstairs because we had news! He always gets mad when my mom tells him what to do so when he came upstairs and we told him he switched from being annoyed lol

That's so funny that your brother went from being annoyed to happy! Did your parents help plan the proposal or was it all your FS's idea?!

That's awesome that you have a video!! Did your immediate family do a good job of keeping it a secret/acting normal?! I feel like I'd be able to tell something was going to happen with my family haha!

Parents only knew what day it would happen, he didn't tell them the details! I had no idea at all even though FH doesn't care for hiking. I thought well he wants to go cuz one of his best guy friends "asked to go" and his gf and we took our dog. I had no idea because he had toned it down on surprising me once I started to catch on in the beginning of our relationship when I was away at school!

I did not have to tell anyone, they had already known for a long time. Friends and Family help planned the engagement. They were all in on the surprise.
