When your fmil wants to buy a more expensive dress than yours...

Decemberbride, on October 19, 2019 at 1:22 AM Posted in Planning 0 12
And, wants you to pay for it😂😂😂

True story. My mom isn't making me proud either. Texted me a pic of a dress she wanted to get and asked for my opinion. Holy inappropriate and Hell no! I kept most of my opinions to myself, and said not my fave, don't think black is appropriate for mother of the bride at a beach wedding.. please keep looking. Not to mention how age inappropriate it was too. Way too revealing and she doesn't work out. She said ok, I'll keep shopping. Only for my sis to call me that night and tell me Mom had bought that dress. Yikes! Why did I want to have a wedding??!!

Your FMIL wants you to pay for her dress? I've never heard of this before! That's crazy to me

Well that’s not good! You should tell your mom to return it because your FMIL might say that you just didn’t want her to get it because you wanted your mother to!

Ooooh boy, I am dreading that discussion with my Mom! I already know she's gonna pick something I hate (our fashion sense is waaay different) and I'm prepared to just pick whatever dress I hate the least.

As far as the FMIL: I will be buying my FMIL's dress only because I want to include her somehow and she is not as well off as I am. I'm planning on flying up to go dress shopping with her about a month or two before the wedding so I can get some input on what she wears (sneaky I know).

Good luck my darling, may the Force be with us all

She sure does. I'm pretty sure she's expecting me to pay for her hair & makeup too. My FSIL paid for her flight and hotel for our wedding

Thank you lovely! I think that's a great idea. Good luck and happy planning to you too!
as for my mom, I HATE the dress but I told her ultimately I want her to wear what she feels beautiful and comfortable in. I really really hope she picks a different dress🤞For FMIL, we said no to the dress that cost almost double what my wedding gown was and gave her a limit of $300. I discussed with FSIL and we don't think she needs to get a dress that costs thousands of dollars to wear one time and for a beach wedding. She's sending me dresses that cost $350 lol

I'd send her back ones that cost $100 or less and tell her that the MOG traditionally has less of a role and is not afforded the same budget as the MOB!

Haha yeah my Mom bought her own dress so I'm not sure exactly what it cost. But it couldn't have been more than $100-$125 from the looks of it. I think we are being super generous with a $300 limit for FMIL. But, I'm pretty sure she doesn't think so.

We bought my mother in law's dress, but only because we knew it would be a huge financial hardship on her and we had no problem doing it. She ended up picking one out for $60, it was very classy & affordable. I'm so sorry your FMIL is doing that!

Thank you! I appreciate that. She seems very much hung up on designers. So, I recommended Nordstrom Rack, Saks Off 5th and Last Call Neiman Marcus. She said she couldn't possibly find anything in her size at a discount retailer lol she's like a size 10 lol

Um, no. FMIL can buy/rent her own dress.
