When to send thank you notes for wedding gifts?

C, on April 16, 2021 at 5:33 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

Hi everyone, what is proper etiquette for when to send thank you notes for wedding gifts received before the wedding? We've received a few and we are still months before the wedding. I'm planning to send the thank you notes as we get the items (within a week). Is that appropriate?

Yes, as soon as you receive each gift. This is helpful to your gifter (because then they don't have to wonder if it arrived/got lost in the mail) AND you (once it's done, it's not hanging over your head or taking up space on your to do list!).

My initial thought is to wait after the wedding and then immediately send the thank you’s after the wedding as soon as you can to whoever gave you gifts. If I was going to send someone a gift for their wedding but I wasn’t attending, I would send it around that same time of their wedding, I wouldn’t send it we ahead of time. Generally speaking, a few months is enough time for things like postponement, or people calling off the wedding to happen. obviously not saying that’s going to happen to you at all, but in general terms, I feel like it’s always better to just send a gift within a week of the persons wedding or no later than a week after.

Write them as soon as you receive the gift.
