When to have Rehearsal Dinner??

LaKiesha, on January 18, 2012 at 4:35 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

So I'm thinking about having the Rehearsal and Dinner a week before the wedding so we can have it on a Sat. It would just give us more time to run through it. This way we could start at 3pm or 4pm before dinner, if we have it the Fri (day before) wedding then we would have to wait for everyone to get off work. So we would be starting at 6pm or even 7pm and then having dinner after. What do you all think??

IMO, I think the closer to the actual date, the better. Leaves less room for forgetting things.. Sure dinner will be late, but it'd probably be a great wind-down from a long work week!

It also depends on where you will have the rehearsal, and if they're available on Saturday. But in general yeah, the closer to the date the better.

Is anyone in the wedding party from out of town? I personally think that is really rude because you are asking them for 2 weekends to devote to you...I've never heard of a rehearsal that wasn't the night before (I've heard of ONE that was Thursday for a Saturday wedding)

    I agree with Rubylee.

I'm having my reception dinner the night before the wedding. I figured with it being a Friday and those people have off the next day for the wedding anyways, plus all the out of area bridesmaids will be there. It just makes more sense.

I am having a hard time with this as well, my wedding is on a Friday, so if we did it the day before its on a Thursday, So i was thinking of having the rehearsal the Saturday before in the morning so we could have a lunch instead of dinner ( to save money, sorry if people feel that is tacky. i am on a very tight budget.)

@Brianna K That was my thing we have a very small budget so I'm going to have to cook the food and have the dinner at our house. But the wedding is in our back yard so we will be here anyways.

So the venue will be available LOL!

There's nothing wrong with lunch or making food yourself, as long as you take care of your guests.

I say that given that you have access to your venue, go ahead and have it whenever you want. Keep in mind though that if any of your wedding party is out of town, it might be difficult for them to make it to the rehearsal and then come back again a week later for the wedding.

I would love for my daughter to have her RD on Thursday before her Saturday wedding. However, I am not hosting it, her FMIL is. My daughter's RD is on Friday night before the wedding because a few people in the bridal party are from out of town. Actually the hosts are from OOT. The downside to having it the night before is that you really can't party hardy because everyone will be bloated and hung over for the wedding the next day. Okay, so I would be bloated and hung over for the wedding the next day. ; )

Seriously, you have to have it the best time for the majority of your bridal party. : )
