When to go wedding dress shopping?

Ashley, on January 17, 2018 at 10:17 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15
I am so curious on when's the appropriate time to schedule or plan to go wedding dress shopping... it's almost February. And I'm just thinking of how I handle certain things "I'm a perfectionist"...so I have a feeling it may take me longer then most for wedding dress shopping... but on the sidenote here. Since we don't get married till April 2019 what would be a great time this year to go shopping? Or start looking? I wanna have enough time just in case. Size change or any problems!

Schedule an appointment at a salon. They will tell you to come in 10 to 12 months before your wedding to look and order. That helps because you need for to six months for some dresses to come in before they can fit it to you. Hope that helps!

I'd say about 12 months in advance. Salons quoted me 6-9 months for a dress to come in but none of the ones I was interested were more than 6 months.

I got my dress 13 months before, waited 6.5 months for it to coming in, now I get to look at it when ever I want until fittings start which is 3 weeks before my wedding.

My wedding will also be in April 2019 Smiley smile

And I made an appointment this April for the first viewing of dresses! I feel the same as you, I am very picky and will probably take forever to decide. And additionally, this is our one chance to go check wedding dresses, so I want to make the most of it.

Regarding the size changes etc, I read that 3 months prior and then again 1 week prior to the wedding is a good time to have another fitting.

I, as well, consider myself a perfectionist but I literally found my dress during my second appointment. I know what I like and it was ten times easier than I thought. Also, I did not want to drag it out and keep asking myself, "what if..." Go with your gut!

For you, I'd go around April/May 2018. Gives you a year, which is not terribly tight in scheduling.

You can start looking at any time, there's nothing wrong with getting ideas about what you like. If you think you're gonna need to go to multiple stores to find what you want, then a year out is probably good. What really matters is how long it will take for your dress to come in. Some designers take 6-8 months, and some take just a few weeks. You want to give yourself about 2 months for alterations once your dress does come in so you're not racing or paying for rush alterations.

I went 13 months in advance and my dress took 8 months to come in. I would say a year in advance should be good. Depends on the designer you choose, but could take a while for your dress to come in and you want to leave time for alterations.

Keep in mind if your style changes you don’t want to get locked in too soon and don’t like it months down the road or next year. I get Married in September and I’m going shopping Monday for the second time. The first was a tragedy the dress shop shut down the next week thank god I didn’t buy there

Hi Ashley!! You want to place your order for your wedding dress at least 9 months before your wedding date (to allow for production time and alterations), so I'd work backwards from there and start shopping 10-12 months before your wedding!

I’m april of this year and went may 2017. Glad I did! Dress just came in. Now time for alterations Smiley smile. So it did take my dress about 9 months to get here.

I would suggest about 12 months before. I purchased my dress at the beginning of June and still do not have it. I was told Mori Lee was running behind from the holidays and I have a feeling I might not get it for a month or two yet. Just something to keep in mind, have fun! Smiley smile

I wouldn't start shopping until you know your venue and style of wedding. You don't want to fall in love with a dress that ends up going against your theme! If you already have a venue booked, I would say no later than 8 months before your date.

I started dress shopping mid February 2017, purchased my dress on March 18th 2017, it came in on June 28th 2017, my wedding is March 17th, 2018.

You should not shop for dresses until:
    * You have a venue booked/picked* You have your date range picked (for seasons)* You are ready to purchase it THAT day (just in case you need to because of various reasons like a sale dress, one of a kind find, etc.)

Happy Hunting!! Dress shopping was my favorite part so far.
