When to get suit for wedding

Karli, on August 27, 2020 at 7:07 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

Hello!

So, our wedding is going to be in July 2021 and my fiance and I can't agree on when he should get fitted for his suit for the wedding. He is in the military and will be deploying around October and obviously don't have a set date on when he will be home. He is most likely going to be home around May. He thinks he can do all that when he gets back but I feel like it may cut it a little close if he gets fitted in June for a July wedding. Does anyone know if thats enough time or do you think he should just do it before deployment like I'm suggesting to him?

He would probably have time but why not get it out of the way......unless he feels like his size might change at all.

I don't really think he's concerned about that he just didn't see a point in going so early. I'm just not that familiar with how long it takes and am afraid if his coming home date get pushed back it could be an issue

I don’t think he needs to get fitted now, he definitely could lose weight on deployment. If he comes back in May I think that’s enough time. Now June might be pushing it. Is the wedding in the beginning or end of July?

I think he should do it around the time he gets back from his deployment, it will give him more than enough time. When getting my fiancee's suit, it only took one week for alterations to get done, so he'll more than enough time.

Have him get measurements taken now as a precaution. If he gets home with enough time to do it again, then he can have them retaken. Should he be a little longer than expected, there will at least be measurements that can be used!

I do not remember anyone who did not have a drastic weight change at first and a building of chest and arm muscles not there before, during our time in the service, male and female, and my husband says the same. Why buy something/ be fitted now, and have to do it all over again at the end? Unless you have an unusual order, like scarce purple tuxes, for a rental 3-6 weeks is fine. People order plain black, grey, midnight blue and navy tuxes or suits a few days in advance for special events. Suits and tuxes you buy allow at least 2 weeks , to allow 3-4 days hemming if needed.

It’s mid July so the 17th. My only real concern is because deployments keep changing and it’s already a destination wedding that it could be a huge time crunch

I was about to say this. His body could change so much on deployment. He could come back smaller or bulkier so it makes sense that he wait until he returns.

Are you renting the tux? Our local shop that we are renting from recommend getting measured 1-2 months before the wedding. He will go back two days before to get fitted. They told us they can reorder anything a few days before if necessary. They also said not to get measured any sooner because guys can change a lot. Call the tux place, explain the situation and they will be able to give you the best advice.

That makes sense. I would call wherever he plans on getting the suit from and ask for their opinion

FH ordered a suit (as he bought one) about 6 months in advance but his size/weight is usually consistent. However he had it tailored about 2 months in advance....hopefully it will work out Smiley smile

As far as myself I am getting alterations the month of the wedding, which makes me nervous but my seamstress said that weight often fluctuates right around a wedding, which mine tends to do so normally so I trust her. She altered a dress within 24 hours for me so I feel confident that she will do a great job within a month on my wedding dress Smiley smile
