When to do rehearsal at venue?

Ashley, on January 5, 2022 at 3:10 PM Posted in Parties and Events 1 14
Hi everyone, I have only been engaged for about 10 days but I am starting to think about planning.

So, first is the venue - most of the places I’m seeing say 12-16 hour rentals, so 9am to midnight or so. That makes me wonder when would you do the rehearsal? I am very against a rehearsal the morning of the wedding as I am pretty traditional and do not want to see my groom before I walk down the aisle on our wedding day. I will be asking venues about this (I imagine some we may able to book extra time the night before, but depends on ther bookings obviously).
How do others work around this rehearsal issue if you don’t have access to the venue on the evening before? Do you just do it elsewhere and hope it translates to the venue? Do it separately before you get ready?

Most of the time venues schedule the rehearsal for either the night before or two days before the wedding. I’d ask your venue how they handle rehearsals. For ours, we could only rehearse the night before if there wasn’t a wedding scheduled. If a wedding got scheduled, our rehearsal would have had to be mid-week and we knew they’d book up so we just opted to not have a rehearsal.

This is a great question to ask the venues. Every location handles situations differently. When I was looking at venues, we asked how early we could set up decorations for a Friday wedding. Some places said the Wednesday before while others said Noon the day of the wedding.

I highly recommend you bring a list of any questions you may have when looking at venues.

If the place you love won't let you rehearse there the night before, you could always rehearse on your own somewhere else. It's not a good as being at your actual ceremony location, but t at least your party will have some idea on how you plan the ceremony to go.

We did our rehearsal dinner the night before at a private room at a restaurant that often does private events. It was a fantastic meal, very helpful, and an overall wonderful time. Don’t stress about doing the rehearsal at your venue, we had our bridal party, officiant, and wedding coordinator with us and it went super smoothly.

Each venue is different as we wouldve needed to book the full day before our wedding as well to ensure we got the space the day before our wedding. They suggested we reach out to them about a month before the wedding to see if anyone had booked for the previous night. If not, we could use the space for a small fee. Most likely we will do the rehearsal the morning of, but we've also thought about doing it somewhere random since its more about timing and less about the venue itself. Ours is pretty self explanatory on where theyll walk and wont take more than a minute of explanation.

You should ask your venue to be sure. I know I get my keys at 8am & have to be out by 1am but our rehearsal is 1-3 days before the wedding depending on their schedule, they said they will let us know which day for sure 4 weeks before the wedding. So just check with the venue to see what their policies are.

We did our rehearsal the night before. You will be so busy on the day of the wedding, you won't really have time to rehearse then anyway.

We did our rehearsal the afternoon of the day before our wedding, which also happened to be my husband's birthday. Normally they didn't do Friday rehearsals to keep things open for events, but we promised to be in and out in 90 minutes. We were, too.

Definitely ask venues when you're looking around. A 1-hour rehearsal/walk-through was included in our venue's contract, but we couldn't schedule it until 30 days before the wedding. We got married on a Friday evening and ended up with a Thursday afternoon rehearsal since the venue had a wedding that evening, but it all worked out great!
