When should the DJ start playing music at the reception?

tina, on March 25, 2012 at 10:59 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

I am getting married in August in Indianapolis and I am hiring a DJ for 4 1/2 hours, but I don't know when he should start playing music? I don't want loud music while my guest are eating. What should I do? Do I tell him that? I'm having a catholic mass at 2:00pm and after that I am telling the guest to go to the reception hall. My reception will be from 6-10? should I have them set up diner right away? So lost, please help!

Low music while they're eating would be a nice touch, something that just creates background ambience while they eat and talk.

Yes, you should talk to your DJ..

He should be capable of playing appropriate dinner music for your guests.. (appropriate as in type of music and loudness level)

Tina, even with a full mass, your service probably won't be longer than 90 minutes. If you start at 2, then it's over at 3:30. If your reception doesn't begin until 6, that's two and a half hours for your guests to wait.

Please find a good event planner or wedding coordinator and let her help you! Then you won't have to be worried about all this.

And a good DJ will help you with any questions about what he can or cannot do (or should or should not do)!
