When is too early to plan?

Bianca, on July 1, 2020 at 8:10 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 29
My wedding is 9.10.21 and I’m trying to get everything I can booked and deposit paid so when the wedding rolls around it’s stress free. My FH thinks I’m crazy and we can wait but why wait when I know prices won’t change except maybe go up towards wedding season?

Depending on the venue, many dates fill up fast up to a year ahead. That is especially true with venues opening up after the virus to accommodate new dates. Do whatever works for you.

It’s totally ok to start planning now! Like PPs have said, venues will book up quickly so decide on your budget and get the venue booked. Then have fun with the rest of the planning. You have time to enjoy it.

You're not crazy lol. It's better to plan ahead as far as possible. If you wait and end up finding a venue you absolutely love, they might not have your date available. Definitely claim what you can now.

Now is definitely a good time to start planning! Especially with so many venues and vendors booking for 2021 from so many people rescheduling from this year. I would recommend at least getting the venue, photographer, DJ, and caterer booked.

Do not wait! We waited until 12 months out to book our photographer and the first three we contacted were already booked! So many people, me included are postponing their 2020 wedding to next year so vendors will be booking up even faster than normal. You should totally start planning the basics and get your big ticket vendors hired now.

In my books there is no such thing as ‘too early’ when it comes to planning. Particularly if you have specific vendors you want to go with. I booked our venue and photographer 14 months out (before we were even engaged – I knew it was coming, we’d discussed it at lengths) because I had my heart set on them and we had a date that was a non-negotiable, our anniversary.

That, and as you said yourself OP, prices do go up over time, so the benefit of having things booked in advance is that you’re locked in at the cheaper rate if prices increase down the line.

I would for the bigger things and your desired vendors go guns blazing with booking things anyway – due to people postponing their weddings due to COVID-19, 2021 dates would be booking out more quickly than usual.

    Have fun!

Fun!!! And thank you! I think I’m just going to do what I want and book when I find a good price and they have availability on my wedding date.

You might want to hold off on ordering invitations until it gets closer to wedding time. They are typically mailed out 2-3 months before your final guest count is due to your venue and caterer. Depending on the type of food you have, you may also have to include entree choice on the rsvp card. Also, you would want to ensure you have a general timeline in place for determining ceremony time. You may want to look into Save the Dates though, as they are sent out much sooner to give your guests a “heads up” when the wedding will be taking place.

Now is good. If my husband had picked our planning timeline we have gotten married in our pajamas in our apartment with no guests and had fast food to eat. He wasn’t ready to do anything until the week of our wedding.

I would def do the save the dates first. And have a sample of my invite done. I’m trying to get Iike the non fun stuff out of the way like actually finding a decent priced transportation into Boston after the wedding, scheduling my hair and makeup and the trial , stuff that like doesn’t matter if it’s earlier the price will be the price but the availability might not be there

That’s what I did, and it has made everything so much easier! We got engaged on New Year’s Eve and had all of the big things booked by end of January or beginning of February. It was especially helpful when everything started closing for Covid!
