When is it too soon to book a wedding venue?

Alice, on March 26, 2020 at 11:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
I’m getting married November 2022,

I am curious how soon would be too soon to book a venue, I understand with everything going on I can’t tour them at this moment. However I am curious.-do venues allow you to book so far in advance?-Do they allow monthly payments?

We booked ours over 14 months before our wedding and 2 out of the 5 sites at our venue was already booked for our date.

Most place have put a limit of 15 or 18 months. People started booking earlier and earlier than the year that had been the furthest out for decades, and places were getting 18 month, even 2 year requests. But the catering service and Inns I work for periodically , like many Nationwide, found themselves booked early and turning away people at 8-months to a year. And with as many as 1/4 of the dates opening up again at 4-8 months, postponement, cancelled weddings, moved up dates, or the formal wedding they had wanted was changed to informal, you name it. And all short term places, hearing about them being totally booked at a year to 15 months, never came back, even though they actually we're not booking until 5 months. So to not be stuck, that meant they were having to cut rates and advertise more, which is expensive, in order to get booked near the date. So a lot are not allowing such far in advance bookings any more. And want much more non-refundable money up front if you push to do so. Because too many far advance bookings just don't happen.

I'd say you're a little early. But I'd say contact venues maybe in July to see what you like. Book 18-24 months out at most. We did 12 months out.

The sooner, the better. Venues book quickly, especially if they’re popular or if it’s high season. If you know where you want to get married, why wait? From there, everything else can start falling into place.

Our venue is already booking dates and signing contracts well into 2022. If you have your heart set on a specific date or venue i would book sooner rather than later and buy wedding insurance.
