When do you do the first dance?

Sherraine, on August 5, 2019 at 12:14 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 16
Is there actually like a rule for it?
Some say before dinner, others say after , I even heard you leaving do the dance during the dinner.

I just don't know

No rule. Whatever works for you. We did ours right as we walked in to the reception but I've seen it done during dinner, after dinner, etc. Whatever works for your schedule.

We did ours right as we walked in also because we felt like everyone's attention was already on us due to the grand entrance

No rule, whatever works best for your timeline. We did after dinner because dinner was in a completely separate area than dancing. So we moved everyone after dinner and our first dance and dances with parents opened up the dance floor.

Most of the weddings I've been do the first dance is right after the bridal party is introduced and walks out. At my cousin's wedding they did it after dinner.

We also went from grand entrance immediately to into our first dance. There are lots of options!

Agreed - no rule, we're doing it right after we do our entrance mainly because we want the "formalities" out of the way so we can just dance all night!!! Smiley smile

I don't think there is a rule. Some couples enter after cocktail hour and go right into their first dance before dinner. We will do our first dance after so we can then encourage our guests to join us on the dance floor and get the party started.

It's all about what works best for your timeline. We chose to do ours immediately after our entrance. Everyone was already seated and the "first" course was being delivered to the tables. Worked really nicely. Did the parent dances during dinner. Pick what works best for you - ask your DJ what he recommends as well. Ours was super helpful in putting together our event timeline.

We're doing our first dance before dinner. We'll go right into it after we're introduced into the room.

I wanted to do ours after we ate. We planned to do our grand entrance, then speeches, then eat the first course, then do our first dance and open up the dance floor. Then second course would be served shortly after. But we felt it was more natural to do our first dance and then immediately transition into opening up the dance floor to everyone else.

But our MC screwed up and announced our first dance right after our first entrance. Ugh. Totally not what I wanted, but it was alright. Some people would've preferred to do that anyway, just not what I personally had in mind lol.

So, TLDR really anytime is fine, it's really just what you prefer and how you'd like the day to flow!

We are doing ours right after we are announced into the reception. We didn't want to dance on a full stomach. Plus everyone will already be seated for grand entrance. I think it is up to you two. There is no right or wrong answer

We are doing ours right after dinner. Our reception is outdoors so we really want the moon to be out for our dance.
