When did you order your dress?

Kylee, on September 15, 2020 at 12:17 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
My wedding is about 18 months away. I’ve already tried on a few dresses to get an idea of what I like but I plan to order a custom dress online. It takes 12 weeks to make and deliver. How soon would you order your dress with enough time for alterations and the possibility of having to start my entire dress search over if I hate this one?

Rule of thumb is typically to order your dress 1 year out (although 6 to 8 months is typically enough time). I would say to err on the side of cautious with the pandemic plus the current state of the Postal Service severely slowing down deliveries. So I would say order your custom dress within the next 3-6 months, just to ensure you have time to look for and order a new dress if you need to.

I ordered my dress 9 months (February) before the wedding. I received it 3 months (August) before (my wedding is in November). I wouldn't say my dress is custom, but they did take my measurements and made it according to those measurements. It fits, if anything it's a little tight, but I just need a bustle. With COVID-19, I wouldn't take a chance. Order it as soon as you are able. I had to wait 6 months to receive mine, so order it 8-10 months before the wedding.

The suggested time to order your dress is 10-12 months out. This allows for the dress to be made, shipped, and give you time for alterations, if needed.

I ordered my dress 10 months out and it was plenty of time.

I ordered mine almost exactly 1 year in advance of my wedding date.

I got mine in February for my October wedding, it arrived in August when it should have arrived end of June, so keep in mind pandemic delays. If you don't plan on having your weight fluctuate too much, you could probably order your dress about a year out and it should arrive with enough time for alterations, typically first appointment is 1.5-2 months out from wedding date.

I purchased my dress in April (10 months out). It was previously owned but never worn with the tag still attached. I received it within a week and I've just been waiting to take it in to get altered. I'll do that within the next couple months or so.

I ordered my dress 19 months prior to my date. They discontinued it and I wanted it bad. You also want to make sure that you love your dress and don't have any doubt later if you are going to hate it. Dresses aren't cheap and neither are the alterations! Do your research before you go to the bridal boutique to see if they have what you want. I should be getting my dress this month. And then at the beginning of next year, I'll take it for alterations

Originally before postponing I ordered my dress in September of last year, received in February for a June date which was more than enough time. Now I'm looking at December of next year and likely going to buy another gown because I have bad dress regret.

I ordered my ceremony gown 15/16months out... this will be the 11th month and its still not here. So I’d order early than you normally would due to the postal office being overwhelmed and slowed down. You also have to account for seamstresses/tailors being 3-4 months behind because of the shut down earlier in the year. So not only do they have a back log they have to accept new orders.
