When did you do your seating chart?

kahlcara, on August 12, 2013 at 11:17 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22

FMIL wants to decide seating arrangements for her family and friends, which is fine, but I want to know who's going where soon since I have to write names and table numbers on all our placecard favors before I assemble them (requires glue) and fill them with candy. She's telling me it's futile to do the seating arrangements now because when she did their bar/bat mitzvahs there were several last minute cancellations and an addition. um, there aren't going to be any "additions" who get seats and food. I've already given the caterer numbers. if necessary I can just take away a placecard for no shows, but I need to have a seating chart for the caterer (who wants a breakdown of who is eating what by table) and I need to get working on the placecards.

As soon as I get the RSVPs back, I'm doing it. If there is an empty seat due to a last minute cancellation, then so be it.

However, I have all my place cards formatted (I've designed my own) and only have to put in the names, you can ALWAYS put the table name/number on now, and fill in the persons name later, I'm making more than I think I should need, that way, I'll have enough either way.

I actually created my seating chart when we had our guest list finalized. It was much easier to just manipulate as I got rsvps in than figure it out all out last minute!

I'm not doing this too soon though, right? I also have to put rhinestones on the placecards, different colors for the meal choice, so I can't do that either until we know who's going where, and it all needs to happen before I can assemble the boxes..

It is NEVER too early! This is one of the tasks that creates a headache and sometimes arguments between your fiance and/or family. For anyone else not close to the wedding date right now. Start early and also be mindful of your guests' body type when seating them at tables. It is ok to have 8 guests at a table and 10 at another....let them be comfortable with enough personal space at the table.

Our RSVP date is Jan. 14th, we would probably start our seating chart soon after. Funny my youngest brother called me yesterday, to tell me not to seat him near any azzholes.

I've got a seating chart and my name places done and ready to print, so when I get my RSVP's back I can just make some alterations and be finished quick quick.

I got mine done yesterday, best idea is to use Bristol board, draw your tables and put people on sticky note strips so you can easily move people from table to table if you need to move things around Smiley smile

FH said he would talk to her today. I just want to know already who's sitting with who so I can combine it with the guests I've seated and finalize stuff. I don't think it will change all that much in less than 2 weeks. FMIL has a tendency to do things last minute, and my mom does things way ahead, so she keeps asking me if I'm finished with it yet. I'm so ready to be done with this.

I'm not going to start working on it until all the RSVPs are back. I don't want to create it 2 and 3 times.

We are getting married in a month and we "finished" our seating arrangement last night. However, we dont have all the RSVP's yet and I'm sure things will change. I was just glad to get a rough idea of what it may look like. It'll be a work I progress until the day of the wedding. It took awhile, so I was glad to have a majority of it "finished" so early. I used a poster board with sticky note tabs so I can make adjustments as they're needed.

We did a rough draft of our seating chart once we decided on our final guest list. Sending out the invitations at the end of the month but it will be easier for us and we also decided not to make even numbered tables. Some tables will have 8 guests, others will have 10. We are only expecting 6 or 7 declines out of 50 invitations.

I had a tentative seating plan (using Wedding Wire's seating chart) months ago, and as people declined or accepted, I rearranged them.

I just finalized the seats over the weekend and sent them to the parents to review. Divorced families make it more complicated - you don't want people that don't get along to sit near each other.

I am getting married this weekend and I finished mine last week. I have had one cancellation so far, but no biggie. Her name is still on the seating chart, but it won't matter. As for adding anyone, nope. My FH joked with me yesterday as he brought in the mail saying there was an rsvp in there (we had 8 who didn't reply and never got back to us) and I looked paniced. He said he was messing with me and wanted to see my reaction. Oh the looks he got, haha.

I started mine a couple weeks out. Used the tool on WW so it saved everything and wasn't a paper mess plus I'm very visual. I probably went through 4 or 5 iterations but I had a fairly small guest list and I didn't take any input from anyone other than H.

I started my seating chart when I sent invites out. I included everyone that wasn't a definite no at first, and I am rearranging as RSVPs come in. I am using WW's seating chart application - and I think it's awesome. So excited to have it finalized when my RSVPs are cut off this Saturday (wedding 1 month away). I think it was easier to start it early and edit as I go along - less stressful than doing it all at once.

I did the same as Britterrss--I made it as if everyone was coming and used the chart on here (SO helpful and easy to just drag, click, and edit as many times as you need. As people declined I just made little shuffles. I was preparing for it to be super stressful and it wasn't at all
