When did you book your venue?

Amari, on November 26, 2019 at 4:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

We are having a destination wedding in 2022. I know it's forever away but it gives us lots of time to save. I'm very much a pre-planner when it comes to important events , I just like to be prepared. I've researched all the venues that meet my requires and narrowed it down to the perfect one.

The date is available and it's only a $600 deposit however it's not refunded which is making me skeptical about booking now.

What do you all think?

I would book your venue if you can this far out. That way you may be able to lock in 2019 pricing before they increase it for the new year. Some places increase $5-$10 per person every year so that could be a huge savings for you. Make sure you get all of that in writing before giving a deposit.

We booked our venue about 22 months out, so almost 2 years. If you are totally sure about the venue, I would book it. However, you mentioned its a DW, so have you seen the venue in person? Are you planning any trips to the location to meet with vendors, etc.? We toured lots of venues and found that some of the ones we loved had little things we didn't like such as the flow from one space to the next which you cannot really tell from pictures. If you are able to see it first, I think it would be beneficial.

Omg I had no idea that it was such a huge increase. If something went wrong I'd rather lose $600 instead of half of the whole venue costs .

If you are 100% sure that’s where you want it and don’t have any plans to go visit then lock it down before the rates go up and get your contract signed.

It depends on the venue but I booked 12 months in advance and the manager told us good thing we came in because the per person cost goes up $10 on January 1st. That would have been at least $2,500 extra for us.

I'm also a pre-planner. We got engaged in January 2019, and booked our venue April 2019 for our wedding date of January 2021. I was happy to lock in pricing, because typically venue prices tend to go up every year.

I think if you really did your research and this is the one that makes you happy, booking early is definitely for the best! 😊 We decided ours 23 months ahead of our wedding, at 19 months now, and I don't regret it a bit. Ours is also "destination" in a way because we live abroad full time and our wedding is back in the States near my hometown. I think it makes destination weddings so much easier if you get the big stuff out of the way!

If it's the venue you really want and you're able to book now, I'd definitely do it! Prices can increase so better safe than sorry.

I booked our venue and big vendors 2 years out - for some, that was as far out as they'd go.

One thing to keep in mind in addition to the advice above: some things about your venue may change in that time period.

For example, the wedding coordinator that I signed the contract with ended up switching jobs (fortunately, I adore the new one!). They also had some potential remodeling that they were going to do, but haven't gone forward with it yet (which is what we were hoping for). New for next year is also going to be a required security add-on for $250.

Not as soon as I would have liked. We booked it in May 2019 for our October 2019 wedding. We cut it close and got lucky because they had just had a cancellation

I booked my October 2020 wedding back in August. Most of the places I looked at were completely booked for next October aside from Halloween. The pricing from 2019 to 2020 also went up $1500 so I 100% recommend booking now if you can.

We booked our venue in January 2019 for May 2020. It's the one thing I wanted to do well in advance since I felt like I couldn't book anything else until the venue/ date have been set. I like that throughout the year, we've been slowly able to book everything else instead being rushed at the end. If you know that's the location you want, I'd definitely go ahead and book it. Lock in your pricing, lock in your date!

I don't think it's a bad idea to book now. Venues can sometimes raise prices, so locking in the current rate is a great bonus. Plus, the venue can help you plan things like guest list, dress, colors, etc! Booking a venue early is totally fine!
