When a vendor rolls their eyes at you for requesting something specific

Celeste, on September 24, 2019 at 1:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Anyone else have problems with potential wedding vendors? I went to a small bridal event at a nice location this weekend. An open house sort of thing. The location was sponsoring all their favorite and recommended vendors. We met some really nice and fantastic vendors, except for the two bakeries who made the wedding cakes. I am looking to buy a nice wedding cake for my guests, but I have special food needs. Specifically, I cannot have sugar. (I can't have flour either but it's more of an elective choice and seriously I wouldn't mind splurging a little on my wedding day). I can have other alternatives such as honey, maple, agave, splenda and stevia. All I am looking for is one place that can do both a wedding cake and a very small mini cake for me on the side so that I am not occurring an absorbant amount of fees and time by running all over town grabbing my cake, the wedding cake, etc...

Both vendors rolled their eyes at me while they were talking and so super condescending. One of them even "scoughed" at me. I believed I said "wow" both times and just walked away. Look, I get there are picky brides out there, maybe even some bridezillas but I was far from that when I met them. I was in a great mood. Having a great time. Enjoying their pretty cake displays. Telling them how lovely their designs were and just asked a simple question. A simply reply of "Sorry, no we don't" would have been fine. But both replies were almost identical with "Ugggghhhh (rolls eyes)...really?!? You want NO SUGAR in a cake?!?"

Smiley sad sorry they were rude to you. But in the bride side, they won't be your vendors after that !! I'm sure you'll eventually find a good vendor that suits your needs.

I am so sorry you had to face that. I would not hesitate to leave a review, but I'm kind of a justice at almost any cost kind of person. lol

That's awful and very unprofessional on their part. I agree with IvyandKris to leave a review!

That's awful, I would definitely leave a review.

I only had 1x bad experience with a vendor - a DJ that was on the preferred list at my venue. Guy was nice, but very full of himself. We discussed what we were looking for our afternoon wedding & I asked him for prices. He told me $2200 for 4 hours. I was nice about it - hey it his business he can charge what he wants, and simply said, ok thank you for your time, unfortunately that is more than we wanted to spend. He then launches into how much that I should be spending per each vendor, and that he is reasonable. I tried to end the call, but he kept talking over me, and then said... why don't you just give me your FH number and him & I can discuss. I am surprised that I didn't breath fire after he said that. I was like, No, that is not how this works. We are not booking you and banged. He was still talking.

Thank you. I did finally find someone and they are great. In fact their cakes are better designed. I love how beautiful wedding cakes are and want my guests to enjoy it too. I wasn't asking for a large size, wedding tier cake...more like something the size of a mini cake just for me. Seriously, it could have been a large cupcake! Plus, they are lower cost and they are willing to throw a small sugar free cake no charge my way. Going in person this week to go check them out.

Thank you. I finally did. Turns out that I was not the only person to review them on their bad attitude.

OMG, I hate the "little lady" attitude from men. That's what I call it! I used to work in an all male field and would get that all the time. Also, no worries. I already put a complaint on Yelp and turns out both bakeries had "meh" reviews because apparantly their "tude" is not just directed at me. I sent an email to the venue with a link to both bakery reviews. I would also like to preface that the other vendors were fantastic. In fact, I liked one of the photographers and the DJ was phenominal. More than likely I will get both of them. I am allowed to bring any outside vendors to the venue and will be getting my own bakery to bring my cakes. I think these bakeries are on their way out.

Thank you. I finally did and I sent the Yelp reviews to the venue. It turned out that I was not the only person to complain about these bakeries.

Omg... the little lady attitude. I love that phrase and hate the attitude. I used to get that when I worked on my car. Every man within a mile radius... "You need help with that?" AND even after saying no thank you, they would continue to talk. Good for you on standing your ground! Smiley smile
