What's REALLY "your song"?

Do you and your fiancé(e) have "a song"? And is it different than what you're using for your first dance? We have a few songs that always make us think of each other, but none of them were appropriate for a first dance!

Wow! I love it.. I did however have an image of a bride and groom dancing to skrillex and was loving that too. I can honestly say I’ve never heard the original. It’s so good.

We are actually doing our first dance to “Driftin” by Griz! Then trying to transition into “You and Me” by Bassnectar and have all of our bridal party come out and start the dancing. Most of our bridal party we met years back at the first Tomorrowworld and that’s where we met and had our first kiss. Come to think of it I actually saw Benny Benassi there!

We never really had a “song.” But we have a few songs that we get mushy over as they’re tied to some memories from our early dating years. 🙂

It's either, "If My Heart Was a House" by Owl City or "I Can't Help Falling in Love" by whomever. We both really like Owl City and that song feels perfect, but "I Can't Help..." feels like a great way to describe how we ended up together. I used to request it at any function we went to that had a DJ too. We were best friends for about a year after we met and I finally realized I was in love with him, and he had a moment one night that he realized that I had always been there for him. And then we just ended up dating, and we've been together ever since.

I'm so embarrassed to say this..... "Summer Love" by Justin Timberlake.
Not because it represent us or anything, I just always think of him when I play it because we sang it so much the first summer we were together 😂
Definitely will NOT be our first dance song.

FH is a big rock fan, and loves Avenged Sevenfold. He likes to tell people that “Little Piece of Heaven” will be our first dance song. 🙄

Friends of ours used to Joke that they would dance to “Community Property” by Steel Panther. They ended up incorporating it as the last song. Most of the older crowd had gone to bed at that point. A lot of remaining guests were confused, but our friends loved it. FH and I were the only other 2 who got the joke.

Our song is actually Love Song by 311. He played the song for me years ago and told me that he felt every word in the song was true about me 😍 and he cried! It was the sweetest moment.

Anyways we chose a different song as our first dance just because it is such a common song. We chose Stand By Me covered by Florence Welch. We are big Florence fans and I’ve honestly always loved this song. We will still play Love Song maybe as our processional song, but we actually prefer the version by The Cure now lol. There’s so many covers of that song!

Unconditionally by Katy Perry! I am absolutely obessed with her and when I met him he informed me that where he's from, Puerto Rico, they don't know the same musicians I know well....like The Beatles.....I almost threw up. But after many hours of listening to latin trap music and reggaeton, I realized we both love Katy Perry and he knew who she was! So excited and the song really represents us.

Crazy Girl by Eli Young Band! Not sure if it will be our first dance song, but it’s been “our song” since junior year of high school when we first started dating Smiley smile

Pretty much anything the Beatles is our song. One night after dinner I asked him to slow dance to You've Really Got A Hold On Me and after that we danced for almost an entire album! So our first dance song will be a mix of great Beatles hits. We're making a whole event out of it lol. When he gets back from deploymeny we'll be getting some wine and try to figure out how to edit music together. Smiley smile

Our song is "Something" by the Beatles but I didn't feel it was an appropriate first dance song because it's about an unsure, new love. We'll be dancing to "Make You Feel My Love" by Adele.

We’re going to be dancing to a Hozier song but we haven’t agreed on which one yet.
But our actual song is Lemon by N.E.R.D. and Rihanna. It’s so catchy but not a song we can exactly use during a wedding

Great question! I've always wondered if we were alone in that our songs are not really first dance material.

Our very first "song" was "Drive By" by Train. I had been living in LA and he was in VA (where we both are from) and there's that lyric "you moved to west LA" and the whole song just really fits. It wasn't a 'drive by' romance. We finally figured out we were in it for the long haul.

The other is "Hotel California" by the Eagles. He used to listen to it all the time being that I was in CA and he had visited me a few times, the whole "such a lovely place, such a lovely face" is his favorite lyric. We got lucky enough to see them in concert in DC summer of 2016 just months before Glenn Frey (a founding member) passed away. I will treasure it always.

But these are not 'first dance' songs. So I have fallen in love with the Civil Wars' cover of Leonard Cohen's "Dance Me to the End of Love." It is so romantic, sexy, gorgeous, and I love that it is a duet and both male and female vocals are featured. It's so perfect - you can sway to it but not have to "perform."
