What's another word for eloping.....

tiffany, on May 31, 2012 at 2:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

FH and I do not have the time, energy or patience to plan a wedding. Excuse my language but the shit is TOO stressful. I don't want to use the word eloping because we are not running off or will be doing anything secretly. I always pictured a traditional wedding with family and friends but this is TOO much work. FH stated earlier this week how he is just ready to be married and don't really care for a wedding. So it got me thinking about the people we planned to invite. Majority of them or friends (well associates) and family members whom we would like to be there but really want make or break it. Some don't know me and some don't know him. So now I am considering doing an intimate destination wedding. It will only be his parents, my parents, our siblings and thier children.

Oh and yes all of the deposits we paid are 100% refundable (I made sure of that).

It's what I call a wedding minus the extra guests, decor, and hoopla. Just the two of you, and the closest of the close friends and family, and someone to marry you. Maybe some minimal decorating.

I would guess a bare bones wedding has

*Bride, Groom, Officiant, Witness (or some immediate family)

*Simple flowers, maybe even a non-bridal dress, no reception and just going out to dinner at a restaurant afterwards.

    - pretty much what my BFF had for her wedding. Total guest list 11 (and that was including the bride and groom)

As a wedding officiant, it's impossible for me not to run through my mind the way my own wedding will be. My future fiance and I have talked this over and over, we can't help it. Since I am involved in weddings every week, the topic always comes up.

We do not plan on a church wedding, nor a reception wedding. We plan to have a small private ceremony in an appropriate venue. The guest list for the ceremony will be limited to twenty or less, immediate family only.

The reception will be held later the same day, one a much larger scale. 200+ guests.

It all comes down to wanting all of our friends and family to take part in the celebration, but only those closest to us to be present for the ceremony.

We have also considered having a videographer record the ceremony, which will be played during the cocktail hour of the reception. When the video has finished, we will make our entrance.

Out of the ordinary for sure, but fitting for our personalities and desires.

Tiffany, you sound exactly like me about 2 months ago........we threw in the towel and decided to get married in Puerto Rico, with just our parents and our kids.........

ummmmmm, not sure what happened, or how, but we are up to 50 guests already, and we just had to hire a wedding planner !!!!!! :-)

It's all good though, the wedding planner is taking alot of the stress off (not all, but some), and although we're taking a chance, we're just going with it !!!!!!!!

Call me crazy, but I love 'eloping'. It sounds glamorous and fun. Or destination wedding.

But why do you need to call it anything at all?

@Celia I really wasn't trying to find another word to approach people with or to put on an invitation. That was just for the sake of the title of the post. I didn't want to put that I was eloping. To me eloping is what couples sneak off and do.

Destination wedding it is...that is exactly what we are doing! I don't need to impress anyone with a big "hoopla" wedding..Aunt Edna's second cousin by marriage twice removed has no reason to be at my wedding so I chose to have a DW in Hawaii and invite only close friends and immediate family. A total of 25 including the bridal party which consists of 9 with the bride and groom. There will still be flowers and "wedding" attire, I can have a cake (don't want one though), a wedding toast, limo ride to and from wedding site. We are taking anyone that attends the wedding on a dinner cruise. Happy planning and there are so many beautiful locations to choose from!! Plus, for the same price (or less even) as an "at home wedding", I get my wedding and an incredible trip plus my honeymoon =)

I like Destination wedding or Small & Intimate Wedding.

You are so lucky to find vendors with refundable deposits. Every vendor I have booked so far, have a non-refundable deposit.

BAHAHAHA!!!! I was the SAME way! I am NOT a good event planner/tour guide and definitely NOT a good wedding planner! We chose the destination route and loved every second of it. Destinationweddings.com took care of all the travel arrangements and put us in touch with a great resort that took care of the rest. Good luck and have fun!

Tiffany, we are having just our parents, siblings, and their kids also. I am loving it. I am not stressed about anything. There isn't the worry that people aren't going to have fun. I can't wait to spend the afternoon with our family. Plus we are able to really pamper everyone with our tiny budget instead of just meeting the minimums.

Where do you guys want to go?
