What's a realistic budget for a Chicago area wedding?

Miranda, on December 25, 2016 at 12:10 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

Hey y'all!

I was just wondering if anyone had some advice for a REALISTIC Chicago area wedding in the northwest/western suburbs. My mother seems to have the idea that we can get married for the same budget my parents did. 3000 dollars....they got married in 1981. I think 10000 is a bit more realistic but after talking to some of my coworkers they spent upwards of 15k.

I have a very large family and think about 40/70 of them will come which takes up quite a bit of my budget and guest list.

An advice would be great. Or any suggestions on inclusive venues !!

Thanks y'all!!

Ill be spending aboit 40000. Ill have about 200 people at my wedding. Your budget will be affected a lot by your guest list.

We are spending about 30K for 150 people. That doesn't really matter though. You figure out what you can afford and work from there. Make your guest list fit your budget including all costs.

I'm in western Lake County and we will have about 150 guest count, we opted to do our ceremony and reception in southern Wisconsin since I'm only about 20 min from the border. But for all vendors, venue, and food/bar we are going to be in the $15k-$17k range

We had 150 guests and came in around 18k for the reception. We got married in the western suburbs and our venue was all inclusive.

My ceremony is in Oak Park and reception in Rosemont for about 225 people. We both have massive families. With venue, the whole thing I imagine will be between 50-60k.

Regardless of the size of your wedding, you need to think of the style you want too. Are you thinking church? Reception hall? Justice of the peace and a restaurant meal afterwards?

As far as per person, if you did $3000 as your parents are hoping, with 50 people, that's only $60 per person. That will get you a drink, nice meal and dessert at a decent restaurant. But that's not factoring in attire, flowers, rings, music, invitations, officiant etc. Breaking it down like that (what the cost at a regular restaurant would be) helped my brain. Hopefully it helps yours!

If you're not doing a simple courthouse wedding with dinner afterwards I would say expect to pay at least 15k. My venue in Frankfort alone was about 13k, but included an open bar and a boat load of other things that most venues charge separately for.

For 40 guests you could probably pull off about 15k in Chicago.... Definitely research prices in your area. Don't forget other expenses like photo, flowers/decor.. Etc

I'd use $100/person to get a ballpark number.

I had one of the more inexpensive weddings I've heard of/been to. We spent a total of $6000 for 65 guests. I cannot I,shine $3000 being doable if you want a wedding with more than even 10 guests. $10k would be stretching it in Chicago.
