What to wear under a sheath style wedding dress? *pic of dress in post*

LA girl, on May 16, 2014 at 2:28 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

My dress has finally arrived at the shop, yayyy! They recommended I bring in the under garments I will be wearing with the dress when I go in to try to dress tomorrow. The problem is I have no idea what to get?

For those who have or had a sheath dress, any recs for type of undergarment and brand?? (I think I'll need something for my tummy, to prevent bulge, but it cant go too high up in the back)

*This was when I tried on the sample, which was a few sizes too big*

Gorgeous dress!! I would only be guessing on what you should wear but I would say spanx and have bra cups sewn in...

Sewn in cups for sure. Spandx. The type that will cover your tummy and your thighs. That way you'll have no panty lines, and your stomach will be smooth Smiley smile

To repeat what the other girls said spanx and either have cups sewn in or get on the those backless bras but if you do put extra tape on it.

OMG that dress is incredible! I would say either cups sew in or one of those adhesive backless, strapless bras (you can get them at Target, VS, kohls, jcpennys etc... basically everywhere lol) and then either spanx or just some panties or maybe even get a little skirt slip from any of the stores listed for the bra lol. you have some options, its a matter of what you want to wear. pick whatever you think you will be most comfortable in as far as not worrying about falling out, wear what will give you peace of mind so that you dont concentrate or worry about it on the day of your wedding.

I don't want tummy bulge but I do want to be able to breathe! I have imitation Spanx from target (I think they are called Assests? lol) but I can hardly take using them for more than a few hours! I am hoping Spanx cost more cause they feel better? I guess I will find out.

Honestly, you don't look like you need spanx. I actually think they make me look bigger when I'm wearing form fitting clothes. Try them on and see if you like them - everyone is different and I know they work for some people.

Thanks Ashley, but the dress in the pic was a the sample and 3-4 sizes too big for me. I am naturally "hippy" and do anticipate having to counteract some bulge :T

That dress ... is fantastic. If anything, I would think Spanx. I just like the feeling of having something keeping my thighs from touching...haha I would get the kind that go to my knee or mid calf. They are very comfortable and just keep things from jiggling in the wrong ways. hehe

The Gianna! I almost got that dress. It is Fabulous with a capitol F. To be totally honest, I didn't get it because there is not much you can wear underneath since the front is so plunging and the back is so low. I am very curvy (and I mean curvy- not heavy- I have a very high hip to waist ratio, and wear DD's), so I really needed something to hold my boobs and hips, so I went with a corset top dress instead. If I were you, I would look into high wasted shorts for the tummy (as long as they are not too high to show in the back). Then, they should be able to sew cups in for your boobs. The only other option I can think of is a nubra type bra ( I got one for $16 at target- just as good as the nubra brand). They are like sticky cups attached in between your boobs and no where else. It is a weird art to put those things on, but you may be able to get the connectors low enough to not show and push them up well enough to look good with the plunge. I know- I tried this the last time I tried it on, but I decided it was too much boobage for a church (hah!). I know this might be a little TMI- LOL! Sorry.

Actually, on second thought, you may not be able to do high waisted shorts because of the back, but you will want somthing on your hips I am betting, as I remember it was so much easier getting that dress on while wearing something slippery on the hips. I bought this small spanx-like shape-wear shaped kind of like a miniskirt from Victoria's secret that had a snap at the crotch so it doesn't ride up. Something like this might work better, and you may be able to pull it up a bit in the front for tummy support? Not that you need any- you are tiny :-)

Hi Blondie123! Yes, it is the Gianna!! Smiley smile I was and still am a little worried about the plunging front. But my bridesmaids said it looked fantastic on me, and that it wasn't trashy or anything like that. I hope they were being truthful lol.

My saving graces are that the ceremony is non-denominational and not in church. (Otherwise my mom would kill me if I wore that dress in church). Also, I am a B cup and getting a little smaller with weight loss. (What a crazy thing for a girl to want happen lol). The sample was way big on me, and the dress shop said my boobage would be better covered with my correct size. Crossing my fingers!

My dress is also a sheath. I got a vintage reproduction of a "wiggle" garter. It was pricey, but it worked the best for my dress. It is one piece, seamless, and it goes to the knee. The brand was Scandale. I have worn it a dozen times now with work dresses. It makes your butt look fabulous!
