What to wear to venue tours?

Amarelis, on July 29, 2016 at 4:36 PM Posted in Planning 1 44

Hi all Smiley smile

FH and I are going on our first round of venue tours tomorrow. I'm really excited and nervous. I don't know what the dress code is for situations like this and I was wondering if you all could shed some light. Also, have you noticed if the people in charge of giving us a tour/booking the venue (not sure what the proper terminology is yet, I've been engaged for two weeks lol) judge you based on what you wear? I want to make the best impression without accidentally overdressing.

Thanks in advance!

Wear what you are comfortable wearing.

Come prepared, ask good questions and be yourself and confident and you will be fine.

If they judge you on your appearance, they are not the right venue for you.

They are professionals, they just want your business and will treat you well.

I just dressed casual, but nicer casual clothes. Didn't get fancy. They didn't care.

Congratulations!!! I didn't even think about that when we toured venues, we wore what we normally wear when we're out in public. I guess I'd stay away from being too casual, I wouldn't go wearing yoga pants or gym clothes.

Are you going to be touring while someone else's wedding is going on? If that's the case, I would cross it off the list because this will be happening during your wedding too. And it's rude.

I dressed in jeans and a nice top. I had make-up on and wore flats.

Wear whatever is comfortable to you. THEY should be trying to give YOU the best impression, not the other way around. Maybe I just don't understand the question, lol. You aren't trying out for anything, no one is "judging" you.

I wouldn't wear your most raggedy clothes. For my first meetings with vendors and for dress shopping I always wore something nice (no tshirts) and typically I always wore a nice top, skirt or nice pants or even a sun dress. Sometimes I just wore a jeans and a nice top.

I'm sure I wore jeans. I don't remember - it wasn't a thing for me to think about.

When we toured I wore a cute sundress (it was in the middle of a heatwave) for all but the last tour, where I wore jeans, sandals and a t-shirt. Funnily enough, that was the place we wound up liking the best - the guy from the venue was also wearing jeans and a polo shirt, we all hit it off and no one judged anything on clothes. I think as long as you don't actively smell bad when you go, they're going to pretend you look like you're ready for tea with the President - they want your money. Smiley winking

I agree with Celia. A venue offered to show us around when they had a wedding going on and it was immediately disqualified.

In terms of what we wore, just our everyday outfits. I'm sure I was in a dress (I live in them) and he was in a t-shirt and jeans. Our venue guide was in a summer dress. Super casual. I would only care about the dress code if I was going to something like a golf club where they have actual rules.

I'm not gonna lie....I wore jeans, a Millennium Falcon shirt and black converse. That's my staple outfit, I don't like wearing frilly clothes. Didn't think it mattered what you wore until this thread Smiley xd ETA: the manager was very nice to us and I didn't feel like we were judged on our looks. FH probably wore torn jeans and a camo shirt and hat. That's his staple.

I just wore whatever I wanted, didn't think twice. I'm generally in some flannel/pleather/leggings combo in the winter so I'd assume I was in something along lines when we visited.

I wore a sundress and sandals but only because the venues had dress codes. I wore shorts to 1 hotel and the coordinator offered to show us a ballroom while a wedding was taking place. I was horrified and said no. I think comfortable is a good way to go. Be prepared, ask questions (I took notes too).

Unless you're touring golf clubs that have dress codes or will be there during another wedding, I don't think it matters.

But if you're worried about it, it's summer - wear a sundress.

Clothes? In all seriousness, though, I think you're fine as long as you're not in sweats or anything ripped/torn.

Thank you all! i didn't even think about running into a wedding while i was there. i figured since they said they were available to tour that there wouldn't be an event going on. in either event, i'll keep it in mind and not tour if there is a wedding in session.
