What to wear for wedding events (brunch, rehearsal, etc.)

Priscilla, on January 18, 2022 at 12:26 PM Posted in Parties and Events 2 14

Hi! What are y'all planning to wear for the pre and post wedding events, like bridal shower, bridesmaids luncheon, rehearsal dinner, and morning-after brunch? I've purchased a few little white dresses but that's as far as I've gotten. I'd love to hear what anyone else is wearing! :-)

I’m not doing white for any of my pre- or post-wedding events. I will be wearing this black dress for our welcome dinner

We had originally planned to have a celestial themed wedding (not sure if we are going to continue on with that now that we have had to postpone twice), so I kind of kept with that theme for my rehearsal/rehearsal dinner dress and my getting ready dress.

And this is the dress I got for the day of the wedding. Our ceremony isn’t until 5:00 PM, so I wanted something cute and easy to run around in while getting everything organized. And since it has the open back that ties, I can just leave it on while getting ready because it can easily be slipped off without ruining my hair and make up

I am not entirely sure what I will wear to our thank you brunch yet. It will be a drag brunch in New Orleans though, so something casual that I can wear running around the French Quarter the rest of the day. Probably one of my comfortable “go to” wardrobe staples like a t-shirt dress and doc martens. What to wear for wedding events (brunch, rehearsal, etc.) 4

Aww thank you 🥰 I know people tend to buy special frilly white dresses for their wedding events, but I really wanted to stay true to my own style and look like “me”. Especially since none of our events will be the typical “come over for a few hours“ sort of thing because it’s a destination wedding. So it was essential for everything to be comfortable and functional, and didn’t require me to pack additional outfits for every event. Do you have any ideas on what you want to wear for your brunch yet??

I am debating this myself right now. I agree with Cece that it's sensible to buy things you'd wear again (although I would wear white again - I love soft pastels and pale colours!)

I bought a dress to wear the day after, but ended up wearing it on our postponed wedding date, and honestly having worn it... I've decided it's too fancy for the day after the wedding when we aren't really doing anything. This is it:

The night before, we're not having a fancy rehearsal dinner, just a kind of drop in event at a pub where whoever is around the night before can grab a beer with us, maybe have a schnitzel, but no obligation - which is hardly dressy. I was thinking maybe this dress from Saturday Club would be perfect for that with a pair of nude flats:

we aren't doing a bridal shower or any other events, as such - we might grab breakfast with family the day after but haven't really booked anything in, it's likely to be quite casual, so I really should probably stop buying things.

The thing is, with all this extra time up my sleeve, I feel like I will regret it if I don't buy it now, online, for less money because chances are (knowing myself) I'll still want something when the day approaches, but I'd then have to settle for something I like less, for more money, in a bricks and mortar store.

None of our events other than the wedding were formal. We wore jeans and t-shirts/tops to the rehearsal dinner and to brunch the day after our wedding. I wore a dress the night of my bachelorette party, but it wasn't a fancy one. I got it on sale at Target three years before my wedding. In fact, I'm pretty sure it was the dress I'm wearing in my profile picture. *points*

These are such pretty dresses!!! I would wear white again too but now that I'm reading everyone's responses, it got me thinking. Although we are getting together for rehearsal dinner at a restaurant and having a post-wedding brunch the morning after, these are going to be very casual events. So yes, I want to wear something I'll wear again and definitely something I'll be comfortable in. I'm more comfortable in crops and a cute top than a dress...so maybe I'll look for some cute top and bottom outfits instead of white dresses. Thanks for your input! Smiley heart

I've been thinking about it this week, and the brunch and rehearsal dinner are both casual, and if I'm being true to myself, I'm way more comfortable in a cute pair of crops and a blouse than a dress. So I'm thinking of maybe wearing a white dress to my bridal shower but dressing more casual in something that I'll wear again for the other weekend wedding events. Smiley smile

I know my FH would be much more comfortable in jeans, and I would be too...jeans or crops. I'm leaning toward dressing down now for our other events. They're casual. Cheers for a dress on sale! Now I'm starting to think of maybe wearing something I already have...it would save me some money and I'd probably be comfortable in it. Thank you!!

Oooh so pretty!! So, I hadn't even thought about this...the dress you wore for your bachelorette was also worn during your honeymoon? In my head I keep thinking of each outfit separate but YES to wearing them again!!! I'm thinking now, after reading everyone's comments and going through my closet, that I'll probably wear a little white dress for my bridal shower and pack it for the honeymoon, and maybe wear a casual dress to our rehearsal dinner, but wear pants and a top for our brunch. I'll be more comfortable that way. Thank you for your help! Smiley smile

Always be true to yourself (whether that means a fancy dress or jeans and a T-shirt or anything in between)! Did you have engagement photos done? If so, you could wear that outfit to one of your events also. I am taking the dress I wore for our engagement photos with us and will probably wear it out to dinner one night or something. It’s always awesome being able to get multiple uses out of things!

Oh yeah - why not re-wear them if you can? (saves money AND is more sustainable!)

Plus - I don't care what the etiquette says - I totally plan on re-wearing what I can years down the line (little white dresses look great with a jean jacket in the spring/fall, or you can pair with booties). The long white dress I am saving for a carribbean anniversary trip down the road.

    LOTS of possibilities.

So true!! Smiley heart Yes we did, but it's a fall dress...I wore it to a wedding and a quinceanera a few months ago so it's definitely getting extra use. I love that dress so even though it's not in season for our spring wedding, I'll definitely be wearing it again!

I like the idea of the crops and blouse/top. I'd definitely look for something I could wear again.
