What to do after morning wedding??

Ashley, on January 20, 2020 at 6:05 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 9
Hi! My fiancé and I are eloping, just the two of us, in Santorini in June. We’re meeting our photographer to take photos at 7am, to make the most of the golden hour (and before the cruise ships arrive!), and our ceremony is at 9am. We’ll probably go out for brunch after the ceremony, but then we’re not really sure what to do with the rest of our day! Do we wear our wedding outfits to brunch? To dinner? Just wear them all around the town all day?? It’s just the two of us so the day is really open, but we didn’t consider what we’ll do with the rest of our day with such an early ceremony (our planner let us know that all the venues we were interested in were booked for evening ceremonies, hence the morning one). Help!

You eloped. Do what your heart desires. Maybe see some cool stuff after like a walking tour por something. I don't know if you want to wear a wedding dress all day unless it's a short dress.

This may sound strange but I suggest a nap. My husband and I got married at 11:30 am then went to lunch. We had tickets to a hockey game that night. We went home and took a nap and it was honestly the best part of the day for me. We snuggled under the covers and talked about how amazing it was to finally be married.

I second PP about napping 😅 but of course do as you like!! Maybe you can keep your pretty dress on (but change into comfy walking shoes, Santorini has plenty of hills). If you need any suggestions in Oia let me know, that's where we got engaged last summer. It's beautiful. ❤️

If we were doing that, we would probably go to brunch in our wedding attire then do something relaxing & just us. Whether that is laying on the beach, going to the spa, etc. Just spending time together. Then we'd probably go to a nice dinner!

Haha! We might need a nap after being up so early! Good idea, thank you!

That sounds like a good plan! I'll look and see what the area has to offer like that. Thank you!

I would like to get as much use out of my dress as possible so I might keep it on a while (it's pretty comfortable), but good call on changing the shoes! I'd love some suggestions on things to do/places to eat in Santorini!

Sure thing Smiley heart If you go down to Ammoudi Bay (so much fuuuuun, hike left to do some swimming/cliff diving), Dimitri's Taverna is great! Really friendly staff and dining on the water is the best. But up on Oia our favorites were Pelekanos and Thalami. I suggest you make restaurant reservations early and ask for a seat closest to the water. (Both Pelekanos and Thalami have beautiful views up on their balconies.)

Everyone talks about Metaxy Mas being amazing but unfortunately it didn't work into our plans. But look into it! It's in the middle of the island and we didn't have a car or scooter so it wasn't convenient. Also in Oia we never made it to Lotza but it's supposed to be good food for less money.

We really suggest Santorini Wine Tours if you're into that sort of thing! Our tour was great. Helped us appreciate the delicious wine there, plus it was informative and fun. We only had one other couple on our trip even though we booked a regular tour, so that was a nice surprise.

Stark contrast, we don't suggest Spiridakos catamaran tours. Their customer service and general experience was pretty poor despite the high price tag. You feel like a stuffed sardine, just there to give them the money. I'm sure you can find a different catamaran tour that's fun!

Also I don't know if you plan on going by ferry or plane, but the ferries from Athens can take foreeeeveeerrrrr and if you're on a small ferry you can start feeling really sick. We booked through Sea Jets and they canceled both our ferries and so we got stuck on other ferries of theirs without actual seats. Oy. They say the planes have a lot of delays, but I wonder if they're any better.

Hope these suggestions help you and congratulations. You're going to have a beautiful elopement.

Oh my gosh thank you for all of the suggestions! We'll look into the restaurants, and good to know about reserving early and asking for a seat near the water! I think I wouldn't have thought to ask, but the worst they can say is no. I saw Pelekanos on a travel site, so good to hear its praise from a real person too!

Oooh a wine tour would be fun to do!

We're actually doing a catamaran tour on Milos because we wanted to check out all of the caves/inlets. I'm hoping that one is good-fingers crossed.

We plan on flying in to Santorini from Athens, to avoid to super long ferry ride, but good to know about flights being delayed. We won't schedule anything that evening just in case it's running late.

Thank you so much again! Neither of us have ever been, so we're taking all of the suggestions we can, and leaving the rest up to fate and good luck haha!
