What time does your reception end?

Zoe, on July 3, 2019 at 1:07 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 30

Am I obsessing over minute details? Probably.

My reception ends at 10:30 (5-5:30 ceremony, 5:30-6:30 cocktail hour, 6:30-10:30 reception)

Is that weirdly early? When does your reception end?

I don't think that's early for a 5:00 ceremony. 4 hours for your reception gives guests about an hour and a half to eat, then plenty of time for cake cutting, dancing, and whatever else you may want (toasts, games, etc.). Plus I know a lot of guests leave shortly after dessert is served anyway.

We have the same timeline and we are wrapping up at about 10pm! I think that's plenty of time.

Our ceremony is at 5, our reception ends at 11. We will probably do our grand exit closer to 10:30/10:45 and guest buses will load up around 10:45. Our last call is 10:15 and last drink served is 10:30. Our hotel bar stays open until 2:00 AM for guests though.

That seems normal to me! We're doing cocktail hour 5-6 and reception 6-10! I notice most people ducking out before 11 anyway

You'll find most people will start leaving around 10pm. Any older guests will probably leave after the cake cutting. If you are having a send off at 10:15-10:30, then that is a natural way to signify that the reception is over.

I've been to weddings where it is 9:55 and the DJ has just shut off the music and said "ok, that's it, thanks for coming". So awkward.

Not weird at all. Our reception will end at 9:30pm. People are certainly free to keep celebrating somewhere else (after party), but we have to be done and out of the venue by 10:30.

4 hours for a reception is pretty standard, I think you're totally fine to end then

Ours will be ending around 10:30-11pm as well, but that's what our venue wants so there we are. We're not far from downtown so there's an open invitation to join us and bridal party for bar hopping.

Our ceremony starts at 4 and the reception will end at 9 because most of our family doesn't like driving at night and the venue is about 30 - 45 minutes from their town. We are also having an after party at a friends house for anyone that wants to keep it going.

Sounds perfectly fine to me! I think any later some guests will leave early if they're tired.

LOL oh god that sounds so awkward. But yes I think you're right - now that I think about it 10 pm is usually the filtering out time for most people.

That sounds about right. I'm having a day wedding so ours is over at 4pm.
