I just got the same cake stand! It was the only one I could find that was the right size for my cake. I went dress shopping first but paid for the venue before doing anything else. I'm glad too because I ended up completely changing my style once we picked a place and date.

My first wedding purchase was my dress, second was swatches for bridesmaids dresses.

So, is it bad that I bought my dress before I got engaged? I knew me and my fiancé were going to get married sometime and the dress came with a crinoline skirt,veil and a tiara for $100! So I guess that was my first technical buy.

I liked the other more but it was long sleeved and I thought it'd be too hot. Then we ended up finding our venue in the woods for with an opening in October. I tried both dresses on again and went with the one I liked more.

The first thing I bought was the dress, followed closely by the venue. That was over a year ago and know I will be married in less than 30 days.

Our first wedding purchases were toasting flutes and a cake-cutting set, actually purchased by my mom. She was really excited to get us those for some reason, lol.

Technically my wedding planning notebook and magazines were first. Then the big thing was deposit on venue. That's the most important for me, because all those small things might get axed in the end. Then i started all my deposits booking my vendors. I also signed up for free fabric swatches and free invite/save the date sample kits. I just received my Zola ones last night.

First physical thing I bought was a portable popup gazebo. I then used its frame for our chuppah (Jewish wedding canopy).
