What saying to put on a slice of cake given out as favor

Lori, on October 28, 2010 at 10:52 AM Posted in Planning 0 20

I am giving out a slice of cake in a pretty boxes tied with Raffia as a wedding favor. We are having a large dinner with dessert and I thought it would be a nice midnight snack for our guests to take back to their room. BTW having desitnation wedding. I wanted to attach a good saying on a little card to the box. The only thing I can come up with is "Something sweet as your goodnight treat" or "the sweetest way to end the sweetest day" I am open for ideas...my brain is mush as I only have a little over a week until we leave!

Personally, I would do the opposite. Cut the cake and serve it and then box the goodies for later, because 1) the cake will dry out/ need to be refrigerated if not immediately eaten 2) most hotel rooms do not have plates/ forks. Things like cookies could be eaten any time. Just sayin.

Ok- honest opinion here- It sounds like you're crapping out on doing actual favors and handing out leftovers. It also tells me you're doing a cake that is double the size of what you need.

I think the idea is fine, but I'd let guests pack them up themselves instead of having staff do it and passing it off as the favor. Just skip the favors totally.

And try to have plastic wrapped utensils (forks) that they can take with them as well.

Actually No Meghan I am not. There are many things things that are being given out at the wedding! I am having the wedding at a 5 star resort so the wedding is not being done half ass. As far as having my guests wrapping the cake up themselves is tacky in it's itself. The boxes are beautiful in itself. I dont do plastic utensils as I have already arranged to have plates and REAL silverwear in the rooms.

I agree with Meghan. I am also having a DW in Vermont. Not only am I providing a "Welcome Survival Bag" filled with goodies, I am also doing favors that are native to Vermont...maple moose pops and maple candy in a box.

In addition to any cookies or other cakes, one serves, wedding cake is dessert, plain and simple. If you would like them to have a treat for the "room", put something in the "Welcome Bags".

Re it being a 5 star resort....are you paying for every guest to fly and stay there? If not...than it is irrelevant to the conversation.

Sorry for being blunt, but you asked an opinion, and you get one.

Lori- I didn't mean it as a personal attack. I was only expressing MY opinion based on the information I had. I like the idea of giving leftover cake to your guests- but I still see it as that- leftovers.

I'm not implying you are doing anything half-assed at all. If you've already arranged for the rooms to have plates and forks, that's great! But I still think it's leftovers. I'm not saying don't do it.

After our wedding this past weekend what I would say is DO NOT go overboard on the favors because most were left behind at our wedding and after all that hard work my mom did with making the wine jelly I felt badly because most people left theirs. Actually if I had to do it over again I would have NO favors simply because of my experience.

I think if you really want to pull this off, a better option is small cakes or cupcakes, if you are SET on cake and not other goodies. Otherwise, I have to agree, its like leftovers.

1st off thank for all the opinions. To comment on everyone's posts...Yes we have paid for everyone's 4 day trip. Also we are not serving cake at the wedding we are just doing a cutting of it. Our guests will and have recieved so much in the form of gifts and things that have been arranged. Sending something sweet with them when they leave to go back to their rooms for a midnight snack I dont feel is tacky as it is not leftovers since the cake is not being eaten. Actually I think all the little gifts people give out are tacky since no one uses them or does anything with them anyways. They are receiving numerous high end gifts during their stay.

Will you be serving a side of pretense with that? I don't see what the mention of all this "high end" stuff is pointing to. Do as you wish, but no need to be snotty.

OK- if you are just having the cake for show, doing the cutting for show, then sending the cake home with them- it's even worse!

If you aren't serving the cake, don't have one! If you want to send something sweet home, consider cupcakes. No cutting required...

No one wants to sit there and watch you cut cake then see if go back to the kitchen, or look at it all night and not be able to have a piece at the event.

Is a pink jet pack one of the gifts? =]

I would think of something else besides cake, it normally doesn't last very long or taste good after it's been cut and sitting. Also if they're going to be filled with food n gifts, what about sending a breakfast treat to their rooms instead since they'll be there the morning after.

You asked for opinions... and yet you don't REALLY want any... Hmmm. Do what you want, but keep the attitude in check. People were simply responding to your question.
