What rings look like after soldering!

ahtena, on March 22, 2013 at 11:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

Well girls, I have used WeddingWire to come up with a lot of things for my wedding this past September. From color choices to my vendors, to making sure I had all right photography shots. And I thank you all! This is my first real post because this is the one question I couldn't get a clear answer on.

After much soul-searching and fruitless web searched on pros and cons and no real pictures I decided to do it and post the pics for others to see.

I found the shop in town that the OTHER shops send their work to, so I could get it back quickly and I was talking to the person DOING THE WORK. Because I have Palladium rings I wanted to use the Palladium solder so it was more expensive than if I had let them use the white gold solder (much harder to work with and more expensive). It cost $100 to solder all three rings, and about $30 to clean and tighten down all the diamonds. Originally it would have been about $70 plus the tightening.

Anyway here are the pics...

As I hope you can see, the solder points are virtually invisible (I was really worried about the solder being visible). The rings also are significantly tighter after soldering. This makes them more comfortable for me and spinning less.

Also, as Jeweler's Services explained to me using the white gold solder makes it much easier to separate the rings in the future. And it can be done at any time with no visible flaws left. Using the Palladium solder they can be separated, but it will be much more difficult to do (and so more expensive to undo).

Wow, it looks really nice! I have been trying to decide if I want to do this to my rings or not. How long did it take?

I dropped them off Tuesday afternoon and picked them up Friday morning. I am so happy I did this. I was getting OCD about the rings spinning out of sync with each other. And I take them off when I get to work, so one ring is easier than three to keep track of.

May I ask where you got the bands? I am trying to find bands that would look okay with my rigt and these might fit the bill

In 1802, the research scientist that discovered Palladium named it after a recently found meteor that had been named Pallas. The meteor Pallas was named after the Greek goddess Athena (Pallas Athena in ancient times). And my name is....Athena!

Palladium is a metal that will never turn yellow, never has to be redipped in the Rhodium plating, so there is virtually no maintenance. It will always maintain its luster and shine. It is nickel free so it is hypo-allerginic. And if scratched will not lose any mass. A buff will bring it back.

Thanks for showing your beautiful rings!! I plan to have mine soldered also, because my band curves around my ring and will not look right alone. My ring spins as well, and my jeweler explained having them soldered together will help stop this! This just confirm it!!

Thanks for sharing your photos. This is usually an internal debate that many brides have... "whether to solder or not."

For me personally, I like having the option of wearing only my band and not always my e-ring so soldering was not a choice that made sense for me.

The jeweler did a great job on your rings though. They look great!
