What Kind of Dress to Wear (City Hall Wedding)?

Barbara, on May 31, 2017 at 9:03 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Good morning and hello to all! New here and still learning. I am getting married in City Hall this Sept. I do not have a dress yet; was thinking of just buying a nice looking party dress bc I didn't want it to be a "big production". I'll attach the dresses I had in mind of wearing. A couple days ago tho, I googled, city hall weddings and in most of the pics, the bride is wearing basic white dresses. Now, I'm starting to reconsider my dress choices? I'm now searching for white knee length dresses. I am sooooo confused by this all. Do I wear white or any color I want? FH and I are not young so that's why I think I don't want to wear white. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

You can always wear any color you want, even if you were walking down an aisle.

I like the first dress, but I would maybe see how it looks without the cartigan. It looks very "office" to me.

Welcome Barbara! We're glad to have you, and we can help with any stress or questions.

You wear whatever in the world makes you happy. You can wear a full formal wedding dress, you can wear a short white dress, you can wear either of the options you've listed above - anything you like!

If you are considering a short white dress, Modcloth has a few cute ones, Macy's or any department store will have some, you could get a bridesmaid's dress made in white, David's Bridal has short dresses and separates... I don't want to overwhelm you with choices, just letting you know that you have great options out there!

I think your idea of looking at pictures of city hall weddings could be a good way to help make your decision of what style of dress you want.

Thank you all for the great advice! @WWJo, no you're not overwhelming me, Smiley smile . A lot of good advice! I was hoping to just "go down the aisle and get hitched" and that's it (lol), but now, I'm learning there's more to it.

You should wear whatever you will feel most beautiful. Just because you're marrying in a courthouse doesn't mean you should rob yourself of the opportunity to wear a beautiful wedding gown. FH and I aaaalmost scrapped our plans and went to the court house, and I would have worn my $1300 dress.

I second PP's comments about finding a nice bridesmaid dress in white or ivory! Cost effective but still elegant.

That dress is cute! This is what I wore. I do regret not wearing something more bridal.
