Help me pick the flavors!! What flavors are your favorite for cakes at weddings? cake, fillings and frosting/covering. My baker has so many options and it is hard to choose just 1 for the whole thing (especially since FH and I can not agree on fillings and flavors!). Here is what we are thinking:...

What flavors are your favorite for cakes at weddings? cake, fillings and frosting/covering. My baker has so many options and it is hard to choose just 1 for the whole thing (especially since FH and I can not agree on fillings and flavors!).

Here is what we are thinking:

Top tier: almond cake with chocolate mousse and raspberry fruit filling with vanilla buttercream frosting

2nd tier: milk chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream and raspberry fruit filling and vanilla buttercream frosting

3rd tier: milk chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream and butter caramel filling with vanilla buttercream frosting

bottom tier: vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream and raspberry fruit filling with vanilla buttercream frosting

It gives a few different flavors (is this weird? Would you be upset as a guest to see different cake flavors going around? I don't want it to be more trouble for the employees serving the cake).

What do you think?

I personally love yellow chiffon cake with Bavarian cream and raspberry...all of the flavors sound so good but I would at least do one layer a yellow chiffon/ vanilla cake and a fruit filling just to have a lighter less rich flavor!

Our wedding cake is two tiers, FH loves Oreo so our first layer is chocolate cake with Oreo Bavarian cream, with fudge and crushed Oreo in the center- then my layer is the bottom and it's a yellow chiffon with Bavarian cream and raspberry

We are having, Vanilla, lemon, and white velvet. I don't care for fillings, but all of them will have cream cheese frosting.

Your flavors sound so delcious! I agree with PP's that it may be too much chocolate, but I don't think 4 flavors is an issue - as long as you don't randomly give people a flavor and they can choose. I'd talk to your venue to see if they can put all the flavors out on a table for guests to choose?

That's what we're doing, and our venue has said that they'll cut the pieces slightly smaller so if guests want to try both flavors there's enough cake for that! We're doing vanilla cake with champagne frosting and strawberry filling, and a banana cake with chocolate mousse filling. Just thinking about it is making me hungry!

    We had 3 options -

    -Classic vanilla cake and buttercream

    - chocolate praline torte cake

    - butter cake soaked with raspberry liquor and raspberry cream filling with butter cream

Our venue cut the cake and put it on the table for people to pick their own flavors.

We had the praline cake (had nuts) as a side cake, vs a layer of the cake so it would never touch the other flavors.

We had different flavors for each tier!

However I don't like that you have vanilla and chocolate together. A lot of people prefer one or the other. I would prefer the vanilla cake, but not with the chocolate filling.

You need a layer that doesn't involve chocolate. I don't eat chocolate and love cake and am always bummed out when I go a wedding and don't eat cake (seriously one of my favorite things about a wedding). Having options for your guests is awesome but you need to take into account different flavor profiles and tastes.

We have 4 tiers all different flavors! Top tier is butter pecan with Bavarian cream, 2nd layer is lavender with vanilla cream, 3rd layer is chocolate with sea salt caramel, and 4th layer is ameretto with red plum blossom filling

It's ok to have each tier be a different flavor and fillings! All 4 of my tiers are different and I'm glad I did it! From what you explained, I like the third tier the best. For one of my flavors, I'm having lemon with cream cheese filling and vanilla buttercream along with another tier being chocolate fudge with chocolate ganache and vanilla buttercream. Have you done taste testing? Just make a list of your top 4 flavors, top 4 fillings, and top 2 fillings and then decide how you'd like them to go from how they would taste. Good luck!

My favorite cake flavors are vanilla, lemon, and champagne. Our cake was vanilla bean with raspberry buttercream and we also had lemon cake with cream cheese frosting. People LOVED them. (We wanted champagne cake with vanilla frosting but our baker didn't offer that flavor.) We also saved our top tier Smiley smile

I agree with PP that you should have only 2 flavors, and that you should have a layer without any chocolate. Maybe something more "plain" like vanilla cake and raspberry frosting or vanilla cake with fresh strawberries and whipped cream frosting?
