What is with all the Barn wedding themes?

Planning our wedding and I just feel like the Barn style wedding is being over done. Maybe I am just in one of those moods. It is 1258am and I have been staring at pictures of centerpieces and Fall weddings for hours.

I grew up on a farm.. so my décor is rustic/barn as it will be at my parents house... old antique wagon wheels, burlap, deer antlers (avid hunters and my married name is Deerman) and wood décor... however we aren't using mason jars... its all In the couples preference, this is just what WE like... to each their own

@JaneA: I can assure you that in NY there is every type of venue you can imagine. Indoor, outdoor, modern, vintage, quirky, beach, etc.

Good luck with your planning and a sincere thank you for your service.

My wedding is on a farm and the reception is in a barn, however, there will be no burlap & no mason jars.

@jane have you looked at the DuPont mansion? I went to a wedding there (10 years ago) and it was beautiful! They got married outside in the lawn and dinner and dancing inside

My fiancé and I chose a venue that used to be an auction warehouse for farm animals and has since been converted into a store and event venue. It was unique and for space with table and chair rentals came out to about $2k. The upstairs/reception area is fairly barn like and we are including burlap and lace over a modern, bright pattern. I think converted barns are becoming popular because they aren't a traditional wedding site, they allow outside vendors, are typically quite spacious and are more budget friendly for those on a tight budget. I like rustic but am really trying not to pay into the cookie cutter style I see all over Facebook/Pinterest.

Pinterest will be the death of all of us.

We do a lot of rustique and barny weddings; I guess I'm kind of numb to it at this point but we happen to have a lot of those types of venues here (NJ/NYC) We also have ballrooms, historic sites, museums, boats, glitzy restaurants, hotels, penthouses, marinas.... I had one barn wedding last weekend, and honestly the only 'rustic' thing about it was the venue. The decor was very polished and sophisticated and it was lovely.

If it's not your taste, it's not your taste....

I live in Texas. Here, we pretty much have all barns and industrial style venues, which are stunning. But it's what you make it! Almost all barn venues I've been to have a pretty easy canvas to work with.

I'm having a "barn wedding" and I adore it. Just my taste. If you feel like it's been overdone, do something else. But your wedding is uniquely yours.

Delaware has some gorgeous venues to choose from. Is there anything 'we' can help you with here?

There are a lot of gorgeous wedding venues nearby; but they just didn't 'feel' like us. I scheduled a visit to our venue; and when FH saw that it's a part of a restaurant that he goes to on occasion with work, he was really excited about the food. We chose a barn because a farm wedding was out of our budget. I love the texture of the building and floors itself. The venue/catering company has great food. Those that are close to us are not surprised by our decision.

You must be new here. the "rustic" trend has been on going for a hot minute.

I hate it- I don't get it- and as someone who owns a horse- I'm with Abby- if that isn't your life- why are you doing it? It's completely illogical to me.

But- the fuck- people make poor fashion choices.ever.single.day. Who am I to judge. I have a lot of shit going on in my life to worry about- that certainly isn't something I devote an iota of energy too.

We built a pole barn on our property the year before our wedding. There is a pond with a fountain close by.

Everyone thought we built it for the wedding.

    No.

    It's for our stuff.

We did throw our annual memorial day weekend party in it before it got used though. That was nice. Now it's back to getting a tent.

I'm an equestrian too. My trainer offered to host my wedding but her barn wasn't big enough! All the wedding barns around here are ridiculously expensive...much more expensive than normal banquet halls. I've actually never been to a barn wedding but would love to.

I wanted a wedding that is outdoors, almost like a camping wedding and I realized it was really hard to get away from barns. So we decided on a place that we will have the ceremony outside and the reception will be inside. Not what I was originally planning but they do have a fire pit and little cabins for us to stay in so it will be fun! I am really happy and excited!

Follow up- Natalie- there is a reason people use those venues- because they are turn key- efficient and easy. The more "out" of the wedding industry you go- the harder you personally have to work- and or pay for.

Kudo's to you if you can afford to pay for it- or can generate the energy to DIY a lot of it- but there is NOTHING wrong with going with an established venue.

We are doing a barn wedding only because it was the cheapest venue we liked and they allowed us to bring in any vendors we chose. I've seen pictures of our venue with a variety of "themes" and no matter what "theme" people choose it still looks great.

Thanks Nonna- There was an article I read a long time ago when I first started planning that talked about that and how she was like I"M DOING ALL THE DIFFERENT THINGS- and the more she worked- the more she realized it was SO much harder- so much extra work- and she wound up picking something more "conventional" and surprise surprise- she still had a very memorable and unique wedding.

It really helped keep my own process in perspective and saved me a fuck load of money of going with something more turn key than something needing everything to be brought in.

No matter what theme/color scheme you choose, it's most likely been done a few hundred, if not thousand times.
