What has been your biggest planning headache?

Kelly, on November 12, 2018 at 11:05 AM Posted in Planning 0 68

We all know that planning a wedding isn’t always easy, it can be stressful at times! Throughout your wedding planning, what has been the biggest headache? Was it getting the guest list down? Budget? Finding your venue?

My biggest wedding planning headache is living in a different state than my wedding is being held in. It would be so much easier to meet with vendors and make appointments if I lived back home.

We had two. We tried to diy invitations and diy music no dj. What a freaking headache. Just dont. We eventually gave up, ordered invitations and my mom offered to get a DJ when she saw how stressed we were and having a hard time. Everyone told me on here dont DIY invitations get them done and I didn't listen and got mad and deleted my account. When I realized everyone was right I had to make a whole new account. We couldn't get them lined up right, couldn't find script we liked, printer wouldn't print them correctly just problem after problem. I said forget this and ordered them off vista and love what we got, after having to order twice because they messed up color.

The music. It was just so hard to find all the files to download and I didnt understand spotify or whatever. When my mom saw I was just so stressed and having a hard time she said she wanted to pay for a DJ. We ended up lucky enough to book the best DJ in northern nv and for half the price they quoted us a year ago when we tried to book. Luck. I couldn't believe how much I was missing out on trying to DIY music until I saw their planning list. Way happy with the decision.

Flaky vendors! We had our DJ disappear on us and never get us a contract. Luckily we got a new one quickly. Our photographer has also been super hard to get a response from.

Keeping my divorced parents happy. I'm their only daughter and the first of their children to get married. They both want to be super involved but don't want to be around or speak to each other. It makes planning more complicated than it needs to be but I appreciate how interested and excited they both are.

Vendors - some just never respond in a timely manner and it's very annoying. I understand they have other events/clients. However, it shouldn't take weeks to get back to a potential client.
I agree with Melissa as well. Our wedding is in upstate NY and we live in New Jersey. So it would be a lot easier to meet with vendors if we were closer.

My wedding is in less than 4 weeks and I went for my hair trial last week and discovered my hair salon had closed! Cue panic attack and crying upon calling their new location to learn they are only a barber shop now and cannot accommodate us. This salon was perfect, had an upstairs area for getting ready where we could have food/mimosas set up. Plenty of room for the 7 of us. Makeup lady was also coming there.

My wedding date is the same date as a major black tie gala. I could barely find a make-up person 2 months ago, everyone was booked for the event. Called over a dozen hair salons and everyone was booked. Finally got my lady’s cell number. She called and she was also booked for the gala, however she said she would take care of me and everyone else and pushed all of her gala hair appointments back. She’s in a small salon now and we’ll have to stager appointments and I have no idea how to handle food for everyone now but at least we can get our hair done!

Right now, its the invitations. I hired a graphic designer because I found a printing company that could print our invites on really nice paper for about $0.88 per invite. Well.... once I got the final file from our designer, it was like 5x the max file size they accept. I had our sample proof printed through them, and it was almost at their max size and the florals were grainy. So.... I had to find a new printer that would accept the full size file, but since I am short on time, I was not even able to wait for paper samples to come in, let alone a proof.... so I ordered blindly. They come in tomorrow. I pray they look good! Or else idk what I will do.

Competing for vendors! I feel like columbus Ohio is a total race to pick vendors a year + out!! It's shocking how fast you have to book or you lose the opportunity to have that vendor!

You know, I was going to say guest list/problems/drama with husband's family, but now I remember just how long and tedious it was to write our entire wedding ceremony and vows from scratch. THAT was my biggest headache! I worked on it for months. I would literally get headaches from researching/trying to figure out the words I want to use/things I want to say.

We're early in the process, but it's definitely budget so far. We are having our wedding in a high cost of living area (out of state from where we live), and so far we've been exceeding weddingwire's budget calculations in every category. Finding a florist, DJ, etc. in the price range WW suggests just isn't possible in our wedding location. We're definitely going to have to save more than we planned!

We are still pretty early in our planning but finding a photographer at this time is such a headache, I'm going to drive myself insane. Its hard to find a photographer who has experience taking pictures of and editing people of color ( and doing it well), especially since I am a lot lighter than my FH. We spoke with one so far, ( who was really amazing) and even he stated there is a certain way the pictures have to be taken and edited to ensure some people do not come out too dark or vice versa. So its a bit of a headache. Smiley sad

Finding a damn caterer!! I’ve been searching for a month now to find someone with everything we want for a reasonable price. We have a smaller budget than most, which is fine (don’t see the point in blowing tons of money on one day), but finding someone to do food within that budget is tough!!

1.) finding 2” heels that are ivory satin sling backs... 2” was the worst choice- everything is granny or blinged out. I should have gotten a flat, or 3”.... feel free to let me know if you know where to find plain ones! Lol

2.) like others, getting the FH to help. He IS very busy but I need help lol. We’re also in two different cities.

The planning process so far hasn’t been all that difficult. Picked my venue fairly quickly and they provide all the tables and chairs as well as all dish ware for dinner, table cloths, and napkins. We also had to use them for catering dinner and appetizers if we wanted the venue, and they can o 😊😊 and can only have alcohol at the venue if we go with their alcohol vendor. So all that was taken care of in one go. My biggest issue so far is songs! I have no idea yet what music I want for the processional or the major dances 😩. Who knew music would be so difficult 😂😂

Oooh, yes I've heard it can be a pain to communicate with vendors when they are in a different area! Where are you getting married?

I've heard both of these are difficult areas to DIY, so sorry to hear you had to go through the added stress of it! So glad you ended up liking your invitations and so nice of your mom to help with the DJ!

Oh no!! I'm so sorry to hear that, but glad to hear you found another DJ quickly! Has the new one been better with responsiveness?
