What exactly does the DOC do?

Tricia F., on July 5, 2011 at 8:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

One month left till our big day and the closer it gets, I'm realizing that a DOC is a must. From all the posts I've read from the married brides on here, it seems like it was the best decision to have one. I will be asking my florist if she could be our DOC and need to know what exactly she will be handling the day of, other than the room set up.. any ideas?

I decided on getting one because I needed someone to handle the day. I do not want to be bothered. So I want someone to make sure we start on time, that the vendors are on time, etc... Help setup. Basically everything Haley said. I just think it helps you on the day when you are so busy you really don't have time nor want to think of the small details, or even the big details

Is DOC something that your florist already does on the side? I just wouldn't want them to be overwhelmed if it is not something they are used to doing.

Some of their responsibilities would include

    receiving and logging all deliveries

accounting for all vendors (photog, video, ceremony musicians, florist, furniture delivery, band/DJ, etc etc.)

event set up (seating, placecards, favors, floral, lighhting, decor

running the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception (timing, entrances, music cues, announcements)

These are just some of the things off the top of my head... im sure thhe other girls will chime in! :o)

    Great, thank you ladies.

@Mona - you recommended the florist that we hired and we love her so I'm just curious if your DOC is just as great. Would you mind sending me a PM with their contact info?

My DOC is also my caterer. Her services were part of our package. Actually, it is because of this and the taste of her food, that we chose her. All of the other caterers just wanted to do food. While we are paying for her staffing fees, it is worth it to have piece of mind. She will arrive at 10:00 a.m. In addition to cooking and serving, she and her staff will:

    1. Pick up and return my rentals(china, glassware, flatware)

    2. Pick up my grooms cake.

    3. Set-up and decorate the entire first floor according to my detailed specs including: doing all tablescapes; setting up the head table, cake table, bar, candy buffet, pastry buffet, guest book table, escort card table, and memory candle table

    4. Greet the baker and help set-up and decorate the cake.

    5. Make-sure everything runs smoothly. All problems go to her.

    6. Make-sure the reception time line is followed.

    7. Set-up the deck lounge
